Alright, my roommate asked me to check out his laptop and this is what happened:
(Sony VAIO model PCG-7133L)
when i first booted it up, it went to the Windows XP loading screen, and right after it gave me a blue screen with the error: STOP: 0x0000008E, and told me to turn off a bunch of stuff (video drivers and what not)
so i booted into safe mode, uninstalled his video card drivers, and deleted a bunch of worthless stuff on his computer
i also noticed that he had programs like memtest, cpu-x, tweakui and other tweaking stuff on his laptop, but i'm sure he had no idea what those are, so i asked him why he had them and he said that he had another person try to fix his comp
after uninstalling/deleting all that stuff, i booted into safe mode with networking and tried running some programs to delete spyware that could have caused the error i stated above
after that, i tried booting up in normal mode, and this time it actually loaded into Windows instead of instantly blue screening after the XP Loading screen, but finally blue screened after a minute or so
so i booted back into safe mode and looked at his system settings, and noticed that it said he was using Windows 7 Ultimate, but when booting up it was using the Windows XP loading screen, and on the bottom of the laptop, it came with a Windows Vista key
any help would be appreciated, he wanted to go to GeekSquad which would cost him $200 but i told him to wait in case his laptop couldn't even be fixed
thanks in advance
