I'm in the market for a 19" monitor and I wanted to ask you folks a question. I like the Sony 19" units as I have a Sony 17" for the wife's PC and like it alot. However, I've read a lot of good things about iiyama from Anandtech and the CNET consumer opinions. However, I don't know how good the reliability and support is from iiyama. And of course, Viewsonic has some good specs for the money.

Anyone have experience with more than one of these brands and could give me some comparison of them & your opinion?

I have 22 P815s at work and 1/3 of them are slowly dying. These are about 1 year old. On between 9AM to about 6PM. Some monitor gets very dim and hard to see, you have to turn the brightness all the way up. They're not bad up to 1280x1024 but higher gets blurry. The Sony g500 / e500 are better for the money. For 19" I rather get a Sony but some people have problems with them also... good luck...

IMO, iiyama monitors have unprecidented Customer support and returns policy. I've never had anything different and have no complaints to date. As for quality, there up there with the big boys, but it's down to personal taste and a good graphics card.

i can vouch for iiyama's monitors as i have owned one in the past and i know 2 other of my friends that had the same monitor i did. Don't forget about NEC/Mitsubishi if you're looking for a 19"

I agree with the above praises for Iiyama, they make great monitors and the few times I contacted their technical support my emails were replied to promptly (one within 60 seconds, I was suprised they could type that fast ).

Thanks, guys.

I went ahead and took the plunge and ordered an i90a. Hope it's as good as everyone says.

I've had 2 Sony's and they are great. Incredible picture even after a few years of use.

I have a viewsonic PS790 and it is GREAT. The thing that sets it apart is it has a 17" footprint so it saves room on the desk.

Another Iiyama plug. I recently purchased a Vision Master Pro 510 and am very happy with the product. I recommend Iiyama all the way.

Yep...Viewsonic is in Walnut, I live right next to them. (and Multiwave..heh) Their warranty on old monitors (like the P815) were very short and lacking. (Two year tube warranty I think) My father does authorized repairs for Viewsonic and his store is almost filled up with defective P815's. Most of the problems where basically tube problems that are just not worth repairing. Since the warranty is short, most of the customers just buy new monitors since warranty won't cover the repairs.

On the newer models (ones with AG tubes) I have seen good picture quality and brightness. I think problems were isolated back to old tubes Viewsonic were using. The new AG tubes seem to be working great for Viewsonic.

Thanks for all the replies, folks! I got my iiyama i90a last night. Man, it blows me away! Its better than the 17" Sony we got with our Dell PII, and light years ahead of the loaned 14" CTX that I was using after I built this system. Just swtiching to this unit got me 10fps in UT (compared to the old CTX).
