sears

This might be a good deal since the lowest I got from my search was $719 plus shipping on some unknown online store.
I have to replace my TV due to lightning damage.

Can anyone comment on this TV , appears to have decent reviews

You can get it for $810.00 at goodguys.com, no tax and free shipping, too.
Web site shows $899.99 and there is a 10% coupon available.

From what I have read from many reputable sites is NOT to get HDTV!! They are in the process of changing it so the current HDTVs could become obsolete which would be a major bummer!

Here is the info that I am referring to above.

. It appears that the new copy-protection schemes being dreamed up by Hollywood will make every single HDTV set sold to date obsolete. And buyers of new sets are not being told about this situation in a dubious attempt to dump very expensive inventory. I'm sure those of you who spent $5,000 to
$10,000 for what may become an albatross are going to love reading this.

Thanks for the goodguy info

I am still thinking of buying it at our local sears since they are a authorized sony repair center and if it does break down I dont have to mail it back which could be quite pricy for a 150 pound item. Plus I think you can return it if you are not truly satisfied.

I was also thinking of buying at the sears.com site then picking it up locally but not sure if this would avoid the tax

I just wish I had %10 off first purchase on sears card

I purchased mine for watching DVD's with a progressive scan DVD player anyway, but this does kinda suck. I wonder if manufacturers will have to do retrofitting since they claimed it would be HDTV compatible. Of course, this is a HUGE grey area, and the manufacturers can probably claim it is HDTV compatible but not HDTV 2.0 (or whatever it will be called) compatible. I would think somehow the manufacturers would give steep discounts or trade up programs for people who shelled out big bucks for earlier models. If they don't, there will be an even slower take off on the next models with people wondering if they will change it again.

I bought one last year and from day one some relay switch, that clicks to turn it on, clicked a few times after a loss of power after "resetting" itself to come back on. Called tech support and was told it was normal and to let it "rest" for a few minutes and it would be o.k. Well, the next few times power was ever cut to the t.v., while on or off, the t.v. would shut itself off and repeat a clicking sound, like it was trying to come back on. So, I would leave it off for awhile (unplugged) and it would come back on and work fine. Called tech support again and, again, they said it was "normal". Now, just after warranty expires, it won't stay on for more than 30 seconds before clicking repeatedly. I realize this is an isolated case because everything I have read about this t.v. has been positive and I'm sure, according to repair tech, the part will probably cost about $10 but labor will be about $85. The shoddy support and lack of c.s. to resolve this and save face in my eyes will prevent me from ever buying Sony again. I'll find out next week if the president of customer relations in Fort Meyers will give me some relief though. If he/she doesn't...they will lose a long time customer, which I'm sure they will just cry all day over (corporate scum) sorry, just venting. Anyway, moral: GET THE EXTENDED WARRANTY! I used to think they were a waste of money. Not anymore.

Depends...I purchased an extended warranty with my HDTV that I will get refunded half of it if I don't use it. It was only like $300 to cover my $3500 set (now less). If I need it once, it will have paid for itself. If I don't use it, it only cost me about $150 for peace of mind. That's only 5% over the cost of the TV if I don't use it or 10% if I do. The warranty cost was the same even for a $1500 TV. I couldn't see getting it at that price. The percentages would have been too high. Extended warranties are like insurance plans. Sometimes the insurance isn't worth the cost. Generally they are huge money makers for the companies that offer them. With very high priced electronics, many people (like myself) can't afford something to go wrong just after the manufacturer's warranty goes out (usually just one year). Also, with many manufacturer's warranties you have to ship or carry the product in for service. With an HDTV that could be super expensive.

No offense, but thiat Sears deal is freezing. That isn't even a sale price. Thats their normal price. The Wiz had it on sale for $810 and you could go to BB and haggle them below $899.

Can't you PM the Goodguys price and then use the 10% off deal they have going on if you use the Sears card? That would make it a bit hotter.

It would be best to buy the set locally with a retailer with a good no hassle return policy Like Sears. The whole Sony Wega line has geometry and uneven brightness issues. You might have to go through a couple of sets before you get a decent one.
