This is my first post so I won't presume to call this a "Hot Deal" (What exactly is the criteria? More than 30% off the typical price?)

$999 800.com Sony Wega KV32FS12 Flat Screen TV
+40 Shipping
-100 "10% off Large Tube TVs" (automatic)
-20 $20 off 100 (Should have used $30 off $150 for my first order)
-200 Microsoft Passport 20% off
-30 5% ebates
-----
$690

A nice TV at an attractive price

Update:
Microsoft Deal is not sign up for MSN deal it is just the 20% discount for passport holders (it shows up directly on the receipt, no commitments)

Ebates - I had a hard time signing in and combining it with Microsoft Passport. Finally I signed into Microsoft Passport, told it to remember my settings and then went back to e-bates->800.com->passport where I was already signed in.

Anamorphic 16X9 - This is a very nice feature. The TV actually adjusts the electron beams to only redraw a 16x9 part of the screen. This way you don't lose any resolution (most TVs just letterbox, wasting resolution lines drawing black regions on the top and bottom)

Here it is at 800.com

http://www.800.com/prod.asp?p=3572

Let's see in the past few weeks I've purchased:

1) Hercules Prophet II MX @ Best Buy w/ the 20% off coupon.
2) The $199 AIW Radeon from Zones.
3) The 256MB Buy.com DOTD.
4) Samsung 950p monitor from Mercata with ~40% off.

Do I heap more abuse on the credit card? Or do I seek help for my addiction?

Hey if you order this can you tell me if the order immediately shows up in your order history. It hasn't yet shown up in mine and I'm a bit worried it might not have gone through (although I printed the order receipt)

Thanks

which one? FS16 or FS12

FS12 = 720ish before ebates (if it works)
FS16 = 790ish "

tough choice.

So what you're telling me is that someone has successfully been able to combine the E-Bates 5% off deal into this whole deal? Some of the other posts have indicated that this is not possible and errors are received.

I've been looking at this TV and am quite impressed. Now for the big decision, do I 1) Buy it from 800.Com for $690 (shipped) or, 2) Do I buy it from Best Buy or Circuit City for $1045 (after tax). Hmmm...seems like a no-brainer to me.

Thanks for posting this sweet deal.

Ya i have been trying to go through ebates but it just stalls doesn't seem to want to work with Passport. Tried it with out ebates and it works but i canceled at the last screen, like to get that extra %5. This is a sweet deal for this type of TV.

wje - Yes it is a super sweet deal, just cross your fingers that you'll never have to return and ship the TV back

I thought this TV was M.I.A. at 800.com? Kind of makes me wish that I did NOT buy my Toshiba Cinema Series 27" for $499 from a local dealer a few months ago.

Does this SONY WEGA have everything like 2 tuner PIP, component, good audio, lots of plugs and inputs, great picture quality, yadda yadda? So you're saying I could have gotten a LARGER 32" and BETTER TV for only $190 more? Ok where's that time machine at?

FS12s do not have PIP... the FS16s do, however. Otherwise they're both awesome sets. WEGAs rock.

What good is a TV without PIP? Nevermind that I have never once used it on my Toshiba 27"

Hey, These are the lower(older) Wega models. They don't have the Wega XBR in stock. The XBR is up to 1080I resolution. HDTV compatable & zoom in & out.
Quoted from an Auction of Egay for the WegaXBR,

<< By combining a totally flat Wega screen with advanced circuitry used in Sony's latest projection TVs, the KV-36XBR400 maximizes your viewing enjoyment, whether you're watching conventional sources ? DVD, VCR, DBS ? or breathtakingly clear 1080i HDTV broadcasts using a separate DTV tuner.
Although the screen has the standard 4:3 aspect ratio, widescreen sources like HDTV programming and "anamorphic" DVDs are displayed in a 16:9 "window": No scanning lines are wasted on black bars at the top and bottom of the screen, so you see maximum detail. Sony's ingenious "16:9 Enhanced" mode maximizes picture quality on anamorphic DVDs. Where most TVs reduce the number of scanning lines ? and resolution ? of anamorphic DVDs by 30%, Enhanced mode slightly compresses the height of each line so you see the full 480 scanning lines, for DVD at its best!

A refined, 2nd-generation version of Sony's Digital Reality Creation? circuitry helps bridge the gap between conventional NTSC video and HDTV: This "digital mapping" creates images with up to four times the picture data of the original signal ? those distracting scan lines simply disappear!

Sony's Twin-View 2-Tuner Picture and Picture can place two equal-sized pictures side-by-side, and thanks to Multi-Image Driver X circuitry, you can then zoom one picture up and the other one down! Very cool.

This is not the specification for the Sony on 800.Com (36" FD Trinitron® Wega? Stereo Color Television KV36FS16)

Do you think I should still buy this, and hope that Sony will put out a conversion later on for the KV36FS16 so that it can do digital Tv?

Decision, Decision.

So what!! if these are not the XBR models. These models are those for the current year - 2000 and only came out during the late-spring early-summer. The XBR is a completely different TV and not a replacement for the current models.

The XBR 32" TV has a MSRP of $2,199.

The deals posted above - $720 (without E-bates) for the non-PIP model and $800 for the PIP model are some very nice prices. Unless you're fortunate enough to find some "open box" special, I doubt that you could get a better price - anywhere - on these TVs.

wje,
I ready to put down ~$1024(rough estimation to get the KV36FS16. All I am worrying about is the future of my Tv's. Within a year or two, we will see more high definition tv's in the store, w/ price dropping. I've been holding out the last two years for the price of digital TV's to drop. I'm to the point of giving up, and are willing to buy some other alternative.

Thanks a lot for the link to the Sony website, I've been looking for it.

Yeah, the TV scenario is kind of heating up like computer technology - you never know when to hop in. However, there are lots of other competitors that are starting to make flat screen TVs - Aiwa and Panasonic. The Aiwa is only out in a 20" size, I believe. The Panasonic cost is about the same as the Sony at the moment. I think I'd set a spending limit for now, and jump on it. While the XBR is nice - $2200 for a 32" TV is a bit steep. I'm sure within 4 years, we'll see flat screen systems (in lots of sizes) from many different manufacturers for well under $1,000. Until then, I think a regular WEGA will hold me over.

Do you already have the KV36FS16 models. It say that it can convert the TV to play your DVD like a Wide screen 16:9 TV. How good does that work?
Last time I was at Circuit City, it look weird to me. I guess you have to get used to it to appreciate it.
