buffboy, How nice of you to make another appearance.
<< yeah wje, just a question, how much was that mitsubishi hdtv, bet not even close to 2000 eh? yeah that's what i thought >>
Actually, the Mitsubishi that I saw was $3,300 or $3,500. I can't recall the exact dimensions of the screen, though. But, it certainly put every other TV in the store to shame. The picture was L-I-Q-U-I-D. As far as the $3,500 goes, that's not much more than you paid (excuse me, your father paid) for the Sony XBR400. If you are going to drop $1,200 more to go to an XBR, what's another $1,200 to go to the Mitsubishi? The $1,200 jump from the XBR400 to the Mitsubishi has more value than the $1,200 jump from a standard Wega to the XBR400.
However, given the constant state of flux in the industry at the moment, I'd be less inclined to spend more than $1,000 on a TV at the moment. Sure, you will have the option of utilizing a digital decoder with your XBR400 to give you a 16:9 HDTV picture on your screen, while I will not have this option with my TV. However, that option may run you $1,000. Instead, I have saved $1,200 by getting a regular Wega. Imagine how much $1,200 + the interest I will accumulate will buy me in 5 years? First of all, I won't have to waste a dime on a digital converter, but will have enough money to buy a *real* digital TV. Plus, I'll have a nice Wega that I'll be able to move up to the bedroom.
Once you get a little more education in your life and some more experience in the real World, what I'm saying will make sense. I only purchase what I can afford. My credit card is utilized like an American Express card - the balance is paid off each month. I don't buy things on credit with the exception of my home - a small 6.5% mortgage and a 0.9% car loan - very little interest do I pay. My wife doesn't need to work. I have 2 dependable vehicles 2 and 4 years old, respectively. My 7-year-old daughter's college is already paid for. Sure, I could easily blow $1,200 more on a TV, but why? I'm quite happy with my newly-acquired home theater system. I have maybe an hour each day to utilize it because of the work I do.
Like I mentioned before, please feel free to post some realistic comments when you have had a little more experience in your life - and you are the one paying your own bills, not your father purchasing you some frivolous gift on a credit card.
