Everything I have read says the geometry problems affect 32" and larger Wega TVs.

800.com offered me some compensation if I just let a tech fix it, but I did not want to wait for the next problem. It may not occur, but I'd rather have peace of mind.

You're so lucky they shipped the TV out of Deleware! Mine shipped from Oregon last Friday and I still have not heard from Eagle!

Well, this morning I watched CNBC and I did notice the slight wave on the stock ticker as some of you mention. I thought my picture was perfect but now I think it still fine. Does that statment make sense?

I don't know how severe your wave is when something is scrolling horizontally but I think its normal from all I read on the forum and on various other forums and posting. It doesn't bother me. 800.com has been great is every respect, please don't abuse the situation and drive them our of business or make them stop offering discounts.

This is a quote in a review I read form this HTU review about an XBR Wega and it should apply to any wega.

Fun-house Mirror Effect: When an object is panned across the screen it will change shape, or appear to wave as a flag in the wind. This is most noticable on stock tickers. One user claims to have seen 50 Wegas and they all have this issue. Mine does not.

Crazybubba: I am sorry, I do not understand what you mean by "abuse the situation". If you are trying to say every Wega has the "wave" and we are just taking advantage of 800.com to see if the next TV doesn't, I think you are wrong. From your own post:

<< Fun-house Mirror Effect: When an object is panned across the screen it will change shape, or appear to wave as a flag in the wind. This is most noticable on stock tickers. One user claims to have seen 50 Wegas and they all have this issue. Mine does not. >>

The first part is what someone claims and the last part is stated as fact. Mine does not. I take that to mean he knows for sure that Wega's are made that don't have this effect because he has one. A tech was at my house and saw this effect himself. I went to a Home Audio/Video store and was told by peiople who work there that they saw that problem on the first models (1998) but have not seen the problems on the new Wegas or heard complaints about it from their customers.

I am not trying to tear into you, but if you meant that comment in the way I understand it, I take offense.

I just got my replacement TV...The Eagle guys were very friendly (once again). I gave them a tin of X-Mas cookies. Well, now I must wait a while to turn it on. All of you guys with geometry problems, were you supposed to wait until your TV warmed up? I waited 2 hours the first time, although I doubt that could be a problem, you never know.

One other thing, the first TV I got, 800.com added more packaging to the TV. This TV came in the factory sealed box with no extra padding.

Being in sunny CA, I don't think I have to wait to turn my set on!

One question for people who have had to get a replacement TV from 800.com. What is the drill for Eagle to take the old one away? Do they just take the new TV out of the box without breaking the box and then put the old TV into that box and take it away? I destroyed my first box, since they didn't unpack it for me...

geoffkin: I asked them to leave my old box, so they put the TV back in there and brought the new one in.

Basically, they showed up, I asked them if they were going to take my old TV (of course no one told them so they called), they took it off the stand and packed it up. Brought the new TV in, unpacked it and set it on my stand, then left with the old TV.

Waiting for my 2nd TV to get here...

What was the trick to getting it out of the box without destroying the box?! I don't think the delivery guys will know how to open it with out a KNIFE! LOL

I don't need another remote, my DENON receiver has a 'learning remote' but that one at Sears sounds cool.

Leave box upright and tilt box back and forth to pull flaps out then lift box over TV. Its Eagle Air Frieghts problem how to carry it out when it needs to go back.

I've seen this done twice. Lay the box on it's side. Tear open the bottom (held shut with staples, just yank on it) then flip the box up right and lift the box off the TV. Then remove the 3 pieces of styrofoam, lift one side up, pull out the stryofoam and half of the bag covering the TV. Lift the otherside and remove the styrofoam and the rest of the bag. Then get a buddy to help you lift up the TV.

I use the same method I pull a monitor out of the box.

Open the top flaps. Flip box upside down with TV inside. Pull box up and out of the way. Flip TV back over.

Reserve to get TV back inside the box.

Note: if you have hardwood or any other type of hard surface, use some sort of padding.

Thanks for the info. guys. I think I'll have them use Crazybubba's method, so that they can take my old one away quickly and begone.
Luckily my new girlfriend should be here any minute to help me pass the time while I wait for the delivery...hehehe

For anyone just getting them here are some tips:

DO NOT Turn it on until it has reached room temperature....This can take 4+ hours....mine took around 6 hours to warm up. turning it on sooner can crack the picture tube.

1st thing to do after turning it on is to lower the brightness and contrast settings that are there.....put them below half way then adjust as necessary....Best way is to get Video Essentials and go through the entire disc setting your TV up.

Enjoy

Kid it might not do it right away but it can cause small tiny cracks in the tube which can damage it more later on. Hopefully your TV will be fine just be on the lookout for problems incase they do happen.

Got my new TV last night, right on time. However, Eagle Freight only sent ONE guy to deliver it. His invoice said it weighed 110! LOL
At least he was big enough to carry it with me. The TWO guys they sent last time couldn't carry it well, so I'm pretty sure they are the ones who busted it up. This one seems perfect! Haven't had a chance to look for the infamous 'flicker' yet. My friend likes his alot, but it always has a high-pitched whine for like 3 minutes when you start it up from room temp. Any ideas what's up with his? Mine doesn't do that at all!
Time to go cut down an X-mas tree...then watch movies the rest of the day and night!! This TV really polished up my entertainment center! DENON receiver, Toshiba DVD and Klipsch matching speakers all the way around!

<< should i get a warranty? >>

The consensus is usually no. After purchasing a large number of products over the past 15 years, I've never opted for an extended warranty. Let's say I've purchased 3 products a year for 15 years and the warranties were an average of $30 each. I've saved $1,350. If I had a problem with the Wega, I could spring for the $300 repair bill. "Self-Insurance" is key in this situation.

we got the warranty this time b/c our last tv that the tube broke (causin us to get this new tv) only had like a 1 year warranty and we'd had the tv for a little over 3 years, now the picture is slightly shifted to the left, there's a blue tint in everything u watch, and with dvds, there's all these lil horizontal lines that show up, ne one know the possible problem, my uncle said it's like a 3 dollar part, and my grandpa said we should have a technician come open up the tv and look at it, but we dont wanna spend $75 for nothin

Any update from those of you that have received your "replacement" Wegas? Is the "ticker flicker" still a problem?

Tharpertx - who put you in charge?....

A number of people that got in on this deal have had problems with the picture. In order to determine whether this is an individual 'unit-by-unit' problem versus a problem with ALL Wega units (hence a larger problem), we've been discussing that here.

If you're Wega is working find, that's great - but please don't crap in this thread!
