Anyone excited about this? Rumor is September release. It looks (spec-wise) absolutely beastly.

I just switched from a Nexus 4 to an Xperia Z. Sony makes some incredible hardware now. There should be a google play version of this phone.

They definitely turned their act around on the Xperia Z, but the release schedule is still very weird, considering they always seem to take 4-5 months after the initial release to get to the US. This makes their phone seem outdated, this is especially problematic if they're trying to break back into the US Market for phones.

I'm hoping that they will release this ASAP (September) within the US, since it passed through FCC.

SONY is the only company that beats Apple when it comes to design. I could look at their phones all day. All day.

Everything about the phone looks great except for all that bezels.
Yeah, its not that big but by today's standards, its big.
I'm looking forward to the LG G2 more.

It looks like a tweak (hardware wise) of the Xperia Z to me - and therefore awesome. I went from a Galaxy Nexus to the Z and I'm delighted by it.

To Dari - I'm a huge fan of the design, too. The Z has such a premium finish to it, and I hope that Sony continues in this vein.

It looks good and the specs are top of the line.

I'd say it could be the best phone on the market provided it comes out next month. This year has seen been crazy for new mobile tech. It doesn't look like any phone will hold on to the spec crown for month than 3 months whereas it seems to me it used to take more along the line of 6 months in past years. But I'm probably just misremembering things.

That's the first thing I noticed too, ha ha.
One of these days a company is just going to say the following:
"This phone's specifications and display are so beastly we decided that instead of giving the tech a name like SuperMegaClearPixel UltraMOS Universe Xercisa Devastator Inglorious TrueView 909 X-3D One 6S 4G MP5 like we originally planned, we decided to take another route and simply call it, 'Awesome Phone with Good Display', or 'Awesome' for short."

On second thought, "Awesome" sounds like an old HTC phone name. The HTC Awesome. Which probably wasn't.

I really liked my ZL - But Once you get a Note II - It's hard to go smaller - so I sold it and went back to my Note II

I'd love to try a Optimus G Pro if you could buy one in Canada....

Otherwise, will keep the Note II until the Note III is available used for $400-450.

I like Xperia series' skin best among Android OEMs. It is simple yet functional, and more than anything it looks modern and coherent. Bloats are minimal and the integration with other Sony stuff (Walkman, PlayStation, etc,.) is tastefully done. It looks definitely Sony without overly complicating user interface. Home screen is jerky - on Xperia Z tablet I played with - but other than that I like it the most and IMO it is something other OEMs (read: Samsung) should learn a thing or two from.

I am looking forward to Sony's phablet offerings.

The fall season releases are getting so much more packed than the spring/summer ones recently...it's a good time to need/want a new phone.

I actually don't like G2 and GS4 because of the extremely slim bezel, It feels like the balance is completely off (design-wise).

I understand that but want either function or form out of the space used in my pocket.
So, less wide, or bigger screen, but not wasted space

I haven't really had any trouble pocketing any phone (Note 2 included). So it's not a huge priority for me.

You know out of all the Android phones I've owned this generation (HTC One, Xperia Z, and SGS4), I would say Samsung has the worse overlay over Android. It's just plain ugly and horrible. Sense 5 and Sony UI is shoulders above Samsung's TouchWiz. (Never thought I'd be praising Sony for software) that alone had put me off Samsung completely, even for the Note 3. I think Xperia I1 will definitely be my next phone.

As for LG. I don't know. I've never had an LG phone that I've liked.

I hear this a lot and I guess maybe I don't see it since I run a debloated TW ROM.

But I've always installed Nova Prime, selected to use stock JB icons, and chosen my own live wallpaper.

Otherwise I like the notifications setup and the default apps like settings, dialer, clock, etc and use a few Samsung apps like S-note. So is it the combination of a different launcher that basically wipes away the ugly TW look or do I actually like the ugly?

The thing is with TouchWiz, I _always_ feel the need to use Nova Launcher because it's a giant bowl of ugly, but when I'm on Sense 5 (HTC One) or Sony's interface (UXP NXT is the name, just looked it up), I feel fine with running it default.

Samsung really needs to hire some UI designers.

Agreed, it's as if they purposely made it hideous. Even things that are functionally excellent (like the TouchWiz calendar app) it almost seems like they went out of their way to make it ugly (and dookie brown).

That depends how fast Note 3 comes out. If it is available in Korea within September, which is very likely, it will most probably beat the specs with 50% more RAM.

That looks pretty nice spec-wise. It sure would be nice if it sells for 529 like the current unlocked Z.

Personally, the aesthetics are kind of bland though.
