I will prefer to have HTC One Max over i1; as name says, its Max in size as well as config.

Um... what?

That looks pretty nice spec-wise. It sure would be nice if it sells for 529 like the current unlocked Z.

Personally, the aesthetics are kind of bland though.

Aesthetics is a personal thing, if Xperia Z is any indication of the i1 design (since the prototypes aren't final yet), I think i1 will be beautiful. Z is a year old though, that's why it's a cheaper price.

If I leave AT&T for T-Mobile I think this is my next phone. How is the back speaker on the Z or ZL? The ones on the iPhone 5 and S4 are very good.

The speakers on Z was fairly loud IMO, but it's also not on the back. It's on the side of the phones. Which is actually really nice design, since you can hear it no matter which face you put the phone down on.

The Sony Xperia Z1 (or Sony Xperia Z One) was previously referred to as the Xperia i1 Honami, but should these rumors turn out correct we finally get to learn its official name.

To refresh your memory, the Xperia Z1 (Honami) packs the powerful Snapdragon 800 chipset with Adreno 330 GPU and quad-core Krait 400 CPU. It runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with Sony's Xperia UI on top. As with many of the Sony high-end smartphones for 2013, the Xperia Z1 (Honami) is also expected to be water resistant.

The smartphone's key selling point is its 20.7MP camera, rumored to support 4K video recording and backed up by a Xenon and LED flash combo.

Yesterday a number of camera samples taken with the Xperia Z1 (Honami) were released in the wild, and we learned a mini version of the phone could be in the works as well.

The Sony Xperia Z1 will debut on September 4 at a pre-IFA event in Berlin.

This phone gives me a sense of upgrade-itis, which I haven't felt in the mobile world in a while.

And I'm currently using a Sony Xperia Z...

I'm very interested in this phone. I have to upgrade to a new Android phone later this year and so far this looks the most interesting. Finally, a Sony phone worth owning. I still don't like the overly square design of Sony phones but I'm willing to overlook it for the dust and waterproof features.

really considering making this my next phone. I hope the bezels come out smaller on all sides compared to the images above. The bezels look like they came from the iphone 3Gs I rocked 2 years ago.

My guess is tiny hands. But I wish the bezels were smaller on this phone. It doesn't bode well with the trend that we are seeing in recent phones with tiny bezels. Of course Sony can market it as its "fashion statement," but I have a feeling that bezel sizes are rather going to be measured rather like a spec-like manner from here on (i.e. smaller = better) until something more than touch screen becomes a factor in smartphone operation.

So can someone explain the lenses to me more? Are they actual cameras that just use your phone's display as a viewfinder/controls? Is that pretty much it?

They're actual separate cameras, you can use it detached from the phone, but yes, your phone's display will be used as viewfinder.
