Bezels on the Z1, the sides as well as the top and bottom, are way too big and compared to the G2 they're downright huge and ugly.

Having the bezel really does help based on experience. Having most of the front be screen can be really annoying because you have no place to rest your digits.

I was using the Z Ultra the other day, the way it's designed (Omni-balance) really helps the device nicely in terms of completely even weight distribution, which made it feel lighter than it was, so I'm looking towards that in Z1.

G2 has OIS, but I'm not entirely sure what Z1 has, all I know it's SteadyShot technology -- and based on the video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pslULskIYkU -- (Z1 image stabilization testing) -- whatever Z1 has is no slouch either, in fact, I think it looks better than most of the other phones that I've used with OIS (HTC One).

The bezel is a personal preference. To be honest, I think having a balanced bezel makes the overall design look nice.

Edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SteadyShot

When a camera is operated hand-held, the operator's shaky hands cause instabilities in the captured image stream. SteadyShot technology works inside the body of the camera. It uses motion sensors to detect the user's movements. SteadyShot then compensates for some of these movements, in some versions by moving the optics and in some versions by moving the image sensor in an opposite direction to the movement.
This approach is contrasted to digital image stabilization in which the physical image is allowed to "track" the scene on the CCD by software to produce a stable image. The digital technique requires the pixel count to be increased to allow the image to move on the sensor while keeping reference points within the boundaries of the capture chip.

Maybe that explains why there is a lack of actual OIS?

This phone looks awesome on paper, the camera looks impressive.

The shape and look however is unbelievably HORRIBLE. The square look with the huge bezels make it larger than the LG G2 despite having a 5.0 screen compared to the G2's 5.2 inch screen.

5" screens are already on the limit between a phone and phablet, the last thing we need on phones with 5" screens is huge dead space around the screen.

This would be my phone if not for the disappointing design.

Extra battery and sensor has got to go somewhere? I personally love the square design though.

I love the design. It's classic. Timeless.

i just pre-ordered mine (C6906 - AT&T LTE) a white one on

http://welectronics.com/gsm/Sony Ericsson/SONY-C6906-XPERIA-Z1.HTML

the website is based in Chicago. They also have the other three model C6902, C6903 (T-MOBILE LTE) and C6943 (ALL BANDS). i've asked them about the availability date, and they said as soon as this Friday(9/20/13) or early the following week. also, there is another site i found, but they only have C6903 (T-MOBILE LTE) but cheaper than the first site. This site is based in Las Vegas.

There's a rather lengthy thread at XDA that claims the screen in the Z1 in a TN panel. What the heck, Sony?

Actually that threads end up bashing the OP for not doing research. I think they concluded that it's a VA-type screen, which has more contrast and colors with darker blacks, while not as good as IPS in terms of viewing angle. (Though not as bad as TN ones)

Sent back my Xperia Z. Wouldnt communicate properly, kept wigging out on me. Also had trouble charging, I think those little port flaps would have broken eventually regardless.

I did like the side charging pads, but they didnt include the docking station with the phone, and its kinda pricey considering it does nothing but charge.

Z isn't the Z1, but that seems more like a defect than a problem with the actual phones. As for the charger flaps -- I agree, that's why they make magnetic chargers that stick on those metal contacts on the side of the phone.

Seems like they're selling the C6902 -- non-LTE version. They have the Xperia Z Ultra LTE up for sale as well on they site.
