Oh Boy! That was one huge pricedrop on Memory sticks. Check here for more info. For all those you bought them during MSN deal you are lucky if you used Blue as you can PM again and make it a great deal as we already used the expired Mail in rebate promo on Memory Stick. For those without Blue, you are better off buying another one and returning this NEW one as your old purchase. Crutchfield accepts returns until 31st of this month. Must be same with Ritzcamera.com.

For what it's worth, Dealcat has 128M memory sticks for $59.99. These are made by Lexar which are just as good as Sony. If I remember correctly, Sony rebrands Lexar memory sticks.

No, actually, Lexar licenses (from Sony) the right to produce MS's. There is no re-branding involved. Lexar sticks are made by Lexar. Sony sticks are made by Sony.

Sony wasn't gaining much market share with their then proprietary format...so...they opened up licensing (to Lexar and San disk so far) and have gained a serious chunk of market share as a result.

Oh, and for the record, the Lexar's ARE just as good as the Sony's. I have 2 Sony 128s and 4 Lexar 128s. Don't waste your money on Sony....

Tip: don't buy products that use proprietary media because you will be held to ransom. Those memory sticks look cheap now and may even encourage you to buy something to put them in, but they will go right back up in price the next opportunity Sony get because they have little competition. I don't buy Sony because Sony want to own everything. For instance, they want to own your MP3 player, the memory that it uses and the music that it plays. They want to own YOU!

sony make some of the best digital cameras. Sony's PDAs own all other palm OS based PDAs.

Eh, I don't know about that. I think Sony wants to keep their products competitive with other compact memory-using devices and frankly they needed to bring the memory stick prices down to do that.

PCMall has 128MB Sony brand at 69.99 if you want to stick to the brand stuff. Shipping is a bit brutal at $9 but at least it's 2nd day Air (ground is higher).

Memory Sticks are why I didn't even consider a Sony digicam even though I really like Sony products. Opted for a Nikon CP 885 that provides a variety of media from different mfgs. The DSC-P5 is a very nice digicam though, I just cringe when mfgs make you buy proprietary peripheral technology...just another way of fleecing the masses.
