Believe it or not about 90% of the software I use is 100% legal, hell i even have legal copies of all my operating systems (3xXP Pro, Win2k3 and various other ones) not to mention the apps i use most often I own legal versions of. Most of what i download is TV series, Firefly, the wire, The OC, Drawn together is another recent one, LOST( kick a ss show!) law and order, CSI....all of these are no different then having a Tivo or replay TV

I've been looking at all the things, and trying to workt he numbers and I'm wondering how comcast came up with these numbers? They weren't very clear about it....

EDIT...definetly forgot about the msdnaa things I downloaded from schoo, about 20-30GB

For the sake of argument, based on the amount of bandwidth you used in a month I don't think the chances are high that a person who has used as much bandwidth as you would have 90% of their software legally.

In any case, you better cut down or find another cable internet provider. :/

You need to get off your ass and go outside instead of watching TV episodes on your computer all day.

i'm sure some brilliant person out there has made a fully automated downloading system that scours the net for new items and downloads and catalogs them to the user's tastes...

just would need a catchy name for it...

wouldn't it be 364Gb as in bits not bytes? And I have a feeling that number came off your node not your modem and you had the highest usage... I couldn't care less about what you are downloading but I thank god no one on my node has that kinda usage... you probably single handedly slowed down the internet for every single one of your neighbors!! Just think poor little Johny down the street probably got caught d/l'ing poon because it took too long to close the window it was still opening in because you just had to have every single ep of CSI in multiple formats

Does anyone think its remotely possible that 374GB of bandwidth costs anywhere near the amount he pays Comcast? That must be at least $100 worth of bandwidth right there. And who's going to pay for that shortfall? Everyone else, in the form of higher prices or slower connections.

And I felt bad for downloading 30-40GB a month... Hmm, maybe I'm just bitter after having my bandwidth metered last year at a cost of $2 per GB uploaded or downloaded.

i can't imagine what he's downloading, i hated my old roommate for using 50gig/mnth for crap he didn't want/need, but 374gigs? And to claim most of it's legit too, you are either the richest and least prudent man i know or the biggest liar.
also : do you have 100 hours in the day to use all that stuff?

you're also forgetting all the data bittorrent sends out. If he is on some big torrents he can be sending and recieving TONS of requests making the download over time alot larger.

Whatever BS excuse the OP might use to justify what he is downloading, I'm wagering that not all of it is entirely legal, so I'm with Anubis on this one.

i don't really think this calls for banning the OP, but the kid must be pretty stupid/immoral to download 374gb/month. he says he buys what he plays/watches, but that's complete bullsh!t. if you have any kind of social life, it's nearly impossible to follow more than a couple series. let alone burning everything on to dvd's. just buy the season set of a tv series you like and rent a game if you're not sure you're going to like it or not.

support the software developers and actors who provide you with the entertainment!

You know OP, take a good look at what people are saying. You are being told to basically get a life by a bunch of people who really don't have much of one (myself included). Isn't that kind of sad?

I have Cox here and I download just as much as you and have never had a complaint. Been a customer with them for over 6 years now. Might just be Comcast. Also I'm in the Northern Virginia Area too. (Fairfax/Chantilly)

You should tell them that you are using approximately 0% of the bandwidth your contract says you can use. Then, when they cut you off, sue them. That's just not acceptable.

WTF, Comcast is doing him a favor. He really does need to get a life in this case.

is there really an upper limit that Comcast goes by, dl and ul?

Officially, no, it's 'unlimited', but if I were Comcast, he wouldn't get a warning.

Yeah, I would sue if they cut me off to just get the medias attention towards their act. You sign up for Unlimited broadband....you Get Unlimited broadband.
Thats like a Chinese Buffet owner kicking a fat guy out of his restaraunt for eating to much.

That's right, stick it to the man!

Oh, have you actually read the Comcast TOS? Because they say they have the right at their sole discretion to decide if you represent an burden to the network and to warn you accordingly. So what would he be suing for again?

False advertising.

This guy doesn't have to be online for this stuff to be d/l you realise right?

He could set up a big ass list and have it d/l over time. Or check in every few days and update the list.

That is A LOT of stuff being d/l!

AGREED!!

Not all TV series are available to be bought in stores, I do own serveral series however that are available, and plan to purchase them when they become available, simply because I enjoy them.

You are lucky then, I know several people who have cox in Northern VA who've gotten emails from them...I have cox at home, and comcast here at school, personally i've been happier with comcasts service, cox always seemed down, and I never could get ahold of a rep who had any bit of knowledge.
