Soo...Just got a call from comcast, apparently 374GB is too much?

What type of connection does this guy have? To upload almost 200GB/day, he needs a 20mb/s upload stream. Is there any commercial ISP offering 20mb/s uploads? If this person is really seeding that much data, he must be using multiple internet connections.

maybe I drank too much (which is most likely) but 374 gigs in a 30 day month comes to 1210kbps/second NON STOP for 30 days....

Its definitely possible... just rather amazing
I think the most I ever DL'd in a month was about 50 gigs and that was on a 8mbps connection through optonline. When I did that they capped my newsfeed. But then I got giganews and it didnt matter then.

Dont let them cap you. In the contract you are alllowed UNLIMITED DL. If they want to contest this in a court of law they will lose.

comcast caps at 400 kb/s.. I smell something fishy with the number again. (unless your math is wrong)

Thats not true. I have Comcast and my DL cap is around 3500kb. My upload sucks at about 350kb. That bit not KB = byte.

Although 374gb is alot, its not like this person is sitting there waiting for everything to DL. I have DL'd maybe 50 gigs in a month and spent all of 2-3 hours that whole month to find what I needed and queing it up for DL before I went to bed.

Anyways, along the lines of this conversation, a British web analyst reported that Bittorrent traffic contitutes over 35% of the ALL internet traffic!

it's around 147 kb/sec for the entire month! Unlikely, but doable if you are downloading from the right server.

No, on average 2,3 mb/s since he joined.. 2,3mb/s*3600s*24h=190+ GB
He´s probably using a 100 mbit up line.

You're calculating in bits not bytes. With a 2-3mb/s upload, you can only upload 21-32GB/day. So if he has 7 or 8 lines, then he could get the 190GB uploaded daily.

Werd. I've been contacted by Comcast before for transfering huge DV (digital video) files between computers over my connection. I had averaged 80 GB or so per month and apparently that was too much... I doubt he got away with 374 GB.

Like someone else mentioned, someone may be leaching off your bandwith, though i'd hope you'd be smarter than to let that happen.

No, YOU are calculating with bits, I myself have 10 mbit up and I can upload more then 3,5 GB an hour, So that means I could upload more then 80 GB per day if I wanted to.

People like you are a large part of the reason the rest of us have to put up with speed caps and bandwidth caps :|

nCred, not be be nitpicky, but please use the correct units. As Pepis90919 had pointed out, millibit??? Mb/s is megabits per second. If you meant megabytes per second, then say MB/s.

hehe, I thought you meant megabyte per second all the time, becouse I write it like "mbit/s" so it does´nt get confused with MB/s.

Anyway you can get 100 mbit upload in a few countries.

is there really an upper limit that Comcast goes by, dl and ul?

Officially, no, it's 'unlimited', but if I were Comcast, he wouldn't get a warning.

Yeah, I would sue if they cut me off to just get the medias attention towards their act. You sign up for Unlimited broadband....you Get Unlimited broadband.
Thats like a Chinese Buffet owner kicking a fat guy out of his restaraunt for eating to much.
You are an idiot. There is nothing to sue for. It is not false advertising. The OP has violated the contract he agreed to in multiple ways. Comcast has every right to cut him off.

And why in the hell is this thread not locked yet and this guy banned, or at least given a vacation and a warning?

jeez leave the guy alone, WTH do you think he bought all the HDDs? to sit idle and look pretty? damn! I almost got TB and that's why I pay for broadband, so I can fill it up as I please. but everyone is kinda right, that is a sick amount, half of the shows he mentioned aren't even that good.

Discussions about piracy are not supposed to be allowed on AT.

I don't care if he gets banned, it's just that it only seems fair that he at least get a vacation when so many other members have gotten in trouble for talking about piracy.

I think he's an idiot, not because he downloads pirated stuff, but because he is bitching about Comcast when he is the one who is clearly violating multiple parts of the contract he agreed to when he subscribed to their service.

As much as I like to think that Comcast is a pain in the ass company, I can't blame them at all for getting a wee bit pissed at you sucking up that much bandwith. If the RIAA comes around asking for The List (tm) I would think your name would be right at the top.
