tea's not as "loaded". Green tea has about 30 milligrams per cup, black tea is about 60. Ymmv based on steep times, iirc.

12 oz of caffeinated soda has 35 milligrams.

Standard cup of coffee has 100+ milligrams, depending on type of coffee and coffee-to-water ratio.

I have been drinking more, but blending my own mostly decaf grind. This way I get the drink but not all the juice.

this past week i started weening off of diet sodas. prior to this week i was drinking 3-4 120z cans a day, sometimes with fountain sodas at lunch. but last weekend i decided to change my eating habits.

this week i'm only having 1 a day, when i first get here, then water the rest of the day.

next week i plan to just drink water and no diet soda. i'm sure i will be getting a headache from no caffeine when i do that heh.

i will drink them though on the weekends when having some mixed drinks though.

It's not that bad. I drank 4 liters a day for years then 5 cans at work and just decided to quit one day.

Had bad headaches for about 3 days, then I felt OK. I drink maybe a can's worth a month. A 2 liter bottle of soda might last for 1-2 months in the fridge, and by then it's too flat to finish.

I pretty much stopped drinking Coke. I used to drink about 3-4 cans a day along with 2 cups of coffee every morning. About a year ago I substituted tea for Coke and drink about 32 oz of various unsweet tea a day. I don't really notice the caffeine difference but my body feels so much better now I'm not drinking carbonated sugar drinks. I need my coffee and tea with every meal. If I don't have coffee or tea while/after eating, I feel bloated. I need the stuff to digest the food. It's why I drank Coke. But tea does much better job and doesn't leave my mouth with nasty aftertaste like Coke.

I drank a lot of pepsi when I was younger, then switched to diet thinking it would be better for me. Then I read all the studies that show that you actually gain weight on diet soda, and also the health concerns with the aspartame. So I just quit soda all together. Now I just drink coffee on the weekends, usually 4 cups per weekend.

A 2 liter bottle of soda might last for 1-2 months in the fridge, and by then it's too flat to finish.

Wow, that's some good carbonation retention. A 2 liter bottle goes flat on me within a week of opening it.

I drink way too much caffeine. I think I drink 2-4 red bulls a day. When I set that Tetris double world record I was finishing my 4th 12oz red bull in 45 minutes.

Red bull is actually a little light. Probably the low end of the energy drink spectrum at 80mg/8oz.

Of course, when 8oz drinks were the norm, that was a lot, but now not only are most 16oz, they have two servings of 90mg+.

Even Full Throttle and Amp (which come from big soda companies) have somewhere in the 85-100 range (180-200 per can).

Not sure why I never became addicted to it- I've gone through phases where I would drink a pot+ a day, or multiple energy drinks...mainly trying to get the energy/alert feeling- but when I'd stop I never had any headaches or w/d...Currently I'm pretty much caffeine free- I'll drink coffee once in a while, or grab an energy drink if I was up late the night before. The rest of my family, on the other hand, are all addicted and can't function w/out it.

I actually had the same reaction w/ cigarettes years and years ago when I smoked in high school - was a daily moderate smoker but quit CT when I left for college and was fine, other than missing the buzz.

Lol who's not addicted to caffeine?

*raises hand*

I usually drink a cup of coffee in the morning, but I can easily go without it. If I'm visiting my parents for the weekend the most I'd get would be decaf.

Caffeine won't wake me up either. Sometimes its nice since I could have coffee with dessert at dinner for example and still be able to go to bed, but other times it sucks when I'm tired and downing a whole pot of coffee doesn't even raise my heart rate :|

Switching to tea is a great way for me to "decaffeinate" a bit and avoid long-term caffeine tolerance/regain sensitivity. Green tea especially has the perfect amount of caffeine that you do get a small amount of energy if you are caffeine-sensitive but without withdrawal symptoms even if you drink a lot. And I can drink it even relatively close to bedtime without it interfering with my sleep.

Black tea is a good intermediate boost in between green tea and coffee. It has about the same caffeine content as regular soda, depending on the strength of the brew. I drink my tea unsweetened, though, so it's significantly healthier. Green tea in particular has a ton of health benefits.

Energy drinks I only drink when I've gone without a lot of sleep and need to be up to work. I don't regularly drink them anymore, though I used to. The average energy drink like Monster or NOS has 120mg - 160mg of caffeine per serving, IIRC, along with other ingredients like B vitamins.

Energy shots, in particular 5 Hour Energy, are terrible. You don't get any of the volume or acidity you get naturally from coffee or the carbonation of soda/energy drinks, or the astringency of tea, so it's easy to overdo it (157-215mg caffeine per shot). Might as well be taking caffeine pills... you don't want to end up like Jessie Spano, do you?

Funny, I tried 'five hour energy' before I was like this- only drank a little soda and at most one energy drink a day (more caffeine than many, not much relative to my current intake).

Did absolutely nothing. Except taste like concentrated anus juice.

Yeah, I've had it on several occasions. I think the intent of the product is to give you energy if you are tired, but spread over time (hence "5 hour"). It has about the same amount of caffeine as regular coffee, say a small coffee from Dunkin' Donuts or wherever. The "crash" from coffee is quicker, but you also get a lot more of a caffeine boost or buzz quick.

Don't make the mistake of taking 5 Hour Energy, not feel anything, and then decide to drink coffee or energy drinks on top of it. I did that once and felt like utter crap for a few hours. It was 5 Hour, and then I think I had a Monster, and then 2 cups of coffee after a few hours. Granted, I was really exhausted before that, but I felt nauseous and a bit sick.

I buy beans, grind them and make my coffee with a french press (same thing at home and at work). Sometimes I will have more than a pot to myself (the press makes about 3 big cups), but usually I just have 1 or 2 cups and share with my coworkers. I will usually switch to tea or water for the second half of the day. I've never noticed any ill effects from NOT drinking it though. I think you are really overdoing it if you get withdrawal symptoms lol.

everyone's body reacts differently. give yourself 24-72 hours of no caffeine. If you don't get withdrawls, then kudos.

IMHO you are addicted to caffeine as soon as you start having physical withdrawls when you try to stop.

meh

We are all addicts in some way /shape or form. Addiction becomes a problem when it significantly alters your life and people around you.

I don't recall caffeine doing that.
