Sorry if this is a stupid question but why are most football quarterbacks white?

my take

for the most part, black players are more athletic than white players. there are other positions on the field that require more athleticism that quarterback, so the players stuck with what they were good with.

other reasons could include that people thought blacks weren't smart enough for the position (as mentioned above), as well as other things stated above.

but really, players play what they are good at. that's why there are players that played one position in college and another in the pros.

BTW, last time I went to school, I learned that each of us are born with different genes that make our muscles more explosive and last longer. Not to mention how metabolism and bone structure really affects how athletic you are.

Black people also tend to have a longer achilles tendon and a greater % of Fast twitch B fibre muscles. Reason that they are better explosive sports amongst other things.

How many guys are there with good height who never play sports past grade school? Just because someone is born big, or fast, doesn't mean they are going to be a pro athlete..that is just a riduculous, jealous statement to make.

Do you think Jeff Garcia is a genetically superior athlete? Think Doug Flutie has the best genes? Steve Nash? Jerome Bettis for that matter?

Again, like was brought up earlier by a wise individual, take a look at the latest census statistics and ask the question again, only this time ask a question closer to, "Are the number of quarterbacks of white and black racial makeup consistent with the population of the country?" My answer to that is NO. I'd venture to say that blacks make up about 20% of the NFL at the starting position which is greater than the 15% of the entire nation's black people. Break down that 15% of the black population into just black males and you have about 7% or so of the total population in that group, making the ratio even that much more skewed. This is simply a question that doesn't need asked in the first place, for two reasons: 1) why does it matter? and 2) what's the correlation to the racial makeup of the United States? Also, I believe someone said that 90% of the NFL was black? Someone needs to pay attention to the fellas opening the holes and plugging up the holes that those running backs are charging through.

By the way, personally feel that players choose their own strengths. Just because there aren't that many blacks as QB doesn't make it racially motivated.

Mike Vick - Scrambling QB

McNair - Scrambling QB
Rodney Peete - Scrambling QB (Especially in his Lion's days)
Akili Smith - Scrambling QB I THINK
Kordell Stewart - Scrambling QB
Jeff Blake - Scrambling QB
Quincy Carter - Scrambling QB


All of them are scrambling quarter backs

In short, White guys ---> Slow and Gumpy, so they play OL, DL, TE, FB and QB.

Black Guys ---> Speedy and can jump really high, so they play everything else.

Can you name the White scrambling QBs currently in the NFL?

Mark Brunell, Rich Gannon, and Mike McMahon are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head.

They are not actually scrambling QB.
Scrambling QB are Steve Young, Bret Favre, Mark Brunell, etc.
Most black QB are option oriented QB.
They think about run as much as they think about pass, or maybe more.
They know that they are athletic enough to do that and it pays off in the college level.
Where the talent level is too spread out.
That is why option QB are so prominent in college.
Even white guys like Eric Crouch can do it too and win Heisman on top of it.
But you can not do that in NFL (where is Eric Crouch now?). Defense are too fast and too smart to let you run amok like that.
Vick is the only one that can get away with that but in NFL nobody can dominate the league in the long run doing that.
Look at Cullpepper or McNabb. They start out like Vick too and quite successful.
But in their later year, they have to learn to rely on reading defense and pass to succeed.
McNabb is one of the great transition, he plays more like Steve Young now.
He only run when it is the absolute last option (no more checkdown receiver).
The last only black pocket passer I know is Warren Moon and he's good. Check his statistic.
NFL QB are dictated by their defense. The better you read defense and improvise, the longer your carrer will be. Beside if you keep taking hits like RB, you will have a very short carrer indeed.
I'm sure as hell ain't running if I got Ray Lewis in front of me.
