I take it the Earth episodes are rather awful? SGA had trouble with that too; the eco-themed episode was particularly awful.

They're just so highly flawed it's not even funny.

Using the stones to communicate with SGC (they have a different name for it in SGU, but I forget) would make sense, since they can be used to communicate between galaxies. But in SGU they let people do whatever when using them. Leave the base? Sure. Mess around with another persons body? Ok! Rail your wife as someone else? Of course!

It's supposed to be part of one of the most top secret programs out there, but when it comes to keeping it secret, they just say screw it?

I actually like the change of pace. At least for now. The slowly developing mystery of the ship and the tense atmosphere amongst the crew works fairly well. That being said they better have something much grander planed for the longer run. I could watch it like this for another few months so long as it starts to really open up later. Otherwise this is just going to turn into 902space0. They better introduce a real protagonist for the crew before too too long. It doesn't have to be quite as campy as the Goa'uld or Wraith but there needs to be some sort of external enemy. Oh and for those complaining about Eli, you do realize he is the only member of the crew who seems capable of the witty remarks and off beat comedy that we have come to love from SG right?

Yeah, but Eli is more like the comic relief on a show that is basically an emo drama. The other Stargates used most of the characters for humor. I don't expect them to add much more humor in the future.

One of the great things about watching a SG1 or SGA rerun is the humor.

I think that even more retarded than this is the wife actually going along with it. I mean would you sleep with a guy who looks nothing like your husband but he says that he is with some crazy story about space travel, etc. Even if she believes it I find it hard to think she would sleep with him in another guy's body.

Though at the end of that episode we got a hint that Telford might actually have some kind of an ongoing relationship with Young's wife...

So far I am really, really enjoying the show. Some episodes are better than others, but I dont plan on stopping watching episodes. This week's episode was the first time that any plot line was ongoing to the next week, which is a step forward. Like other people have said, one-episode plotlines are fine for a while (or for classic shows like TNG) but eventually we need Something Big.

For whatever reason, when Eli was talking to Sophi I almost had to stop watching. That was so awkward. I hate the whole fat guy likes a hot chick thing. I fail to see what can be rewarding about the triangle they have going, and tension merely for tension's sake lasting an entire season is kind of pointless.

I don't remember the other two SG series being as graphic (violence and sex). This isn't a show I can watch with my family anymore.

So you mean all those episodes where they are shooting numerous people are not violent?

It could be violent sure, but in last night's episode in particular, it was graphic. Little flying slug things burrowing their way through a person? Not exactly run of the mill Stargate violence.

Sure SG1 had people being shot w/ staff weapons and Atlantis had the wraith sucking the life out of people, but those aren't as graphic (bloddy / gory) as what I've seen so far in SGU.

Didn't the SG1 pilot movie on USA have full frontal nudity?

Yeah, the last episode kinda sucked. I'm all for psychodrama, but that's all this show has been so far. Characters have been established enough, time to move on to an actual plot, or are we going to hear more childhood stories of every minor character on the ship? And what's Rush doing through all this? He's our Carter/McKay equivalent, why hasn't he cracked at least some of the ship system's yet?

The earth episodes are pretty terrible yeah. The second really annoying thing is all the stupid love triangle BS going on.

Antagonist = bad guy.
Protagonist = good guy.

That's my gripe with them too. It seems they use the stones just so Telford can mess up stuff on the ship, and in that other dude's house. Chloe could be cool, but is mostly annoying. If anything they should have Eli coming back to write stuff down, and maybe Daniel Jackson going over to like, read stuff.

Or maybe they should have the "useless" people come back in exchange for some people who could go over and work on getting the ship's food making systems going or something.

If you mean that this past episode was linked to the previous ice planet episode by the infection, then okay, but that was a bit of an afterthought. I mean, the next episode could be about how the ship contracted some kind of energy disease from some energy lifeform which lived in the last star they fuelled up at.

If you mean the ending of this past episode leading to the next one, well I think that the ending was to let you know that they figured it out and all would be well. I think that's the last we'll see of the ice disease or the nocturnal stinky flying octopi of death.
