Sound and Video sync probs with DivX

I've been making DivX copies of my DVDs and bringing then to work to watch at lunch. I've been using the same res as the original DVD and the same audio freq. They play great on my machine at home but when I play them at work the sound and video don't stay in sync. If I go to another place in the movie the sound and video regain sync but slowly go out again. I've tried using a lower video res but it still does it. My computer configs are as follows:

Home rig:
Dual P3s @ 733
512MB of PC133
SB Live!
CL GTS 32MB

Work rig:
P2 400
128MB PC100
SB16 ISA
Diamond TNT2U

Other people here at work with machines just a bit faster than mine don't have this problem. Also, I watched a DivX movie made by someone else and it ran perfectly at work. The only difference between the movie that ran good for me and the ones I make is I use 48K and the other movie was 44K sound. I tried making a DivX movie with 44k sound but the video and audio went out of sync at home and at work.

Does anyone know what I can do?

I had the same problem back when I had the AWE32. It's because SB16 DAC can only produce 44.1KHz output, 48KHz has to be emulated through some portion of the software (be it playback/decompression codec or sound card driver).

You could try to upgrade the DivX codec. Only thing that made troublesome DivX clips run well on my previous rig was to put WinAMP w/ DirectSound oputput device playback paused in the background: it forced media player into cooperative DirectSound mode, and enabled better 48KHz emulation from under DirectX's hood instead of what's in the Media player.

Do the other work machines have 48kHz audio? You could replace your work machine's with a Live! ($40) or change your ripping/coding method to produce 44kHz synced audio. I suggest ripping to 48 PCM integral with the encoded video as AVI, then running that AVI through VirtualDub to convert/encode the audio. The first solution sure is easier and maintains higher quality. Also, you get better quality video by reducing the resolution and cropping the letterboxing. Combining fast motion and low motion is the cake under the icing (I'm not so fond of icing).
