I have always trusted the advice I receive here at AnandTech! Thank you very much in advance.

Looking to spend $300-$600 for a new Soundbar with good bass or a new soundbar with a wireless Sub...whichever you think would be best.

Room is 17 x 20 with the sides of the room 75% open staircases or hallways. So I cannot bounce off the side walls
TV is a Sony 65 900F mounted on wall
Sound bar would be mounted on wall under TV
We sit about 15 feet from the TV

I do not want to go the whole route of full Surround sound system as I will not be in this location for more then 3 years.

I am looking for something that will provide solid sound for (Ordering in usage) I also use ARC technology

  1. TV
  2. Movies (4k etc)
  3. XBox Gaming
I currently have a Sony HTC-800. Its OK but I am thinking there is something better out there for me...unless the experts here think not!

I was looking at this but it is back ordered to the end of July and is 799 + 79 wall mount + Tax

OK Thanks!

So on hand I have the following two pieces, they are old but wondering what the experts think.
  1. AVR is Yamaha RX-V2095
  2. Acoustic Research S112PS

I would need 3 more speakers (Left, Center, Right) and I would like to wall mount them BUT if there is a nice pair of towers to stand on the side of my 60 inch wide under mounted TV center and I mount the center that also works.

I would rather not install rears. unless they are wireless which I assume I would then need a new AVR.

If the above 2 components work, what brand would you suggest for my setup?

Polk, Klipsch, Dynaudio etc...

go listen to some speakers to see what sounds good to you.
that avr is old, no hdmi from what i see, i would upgrade it
that sub is not very powerful, but try it, see if its enough for you

im running 3.1 and see no need for more, it fits what i want

While I agree with mdram about ditching the soundbar idea, I disagree with stopping with just a 3.1 setup. TV in the US broadcasts in Dolby digital, which is a 5.1 setup. Not to mention, the RX-V2095 supports it. I'm not saying that you have to buy everything now. I still don't have a center channel speaker here and it's been 2 years, but sometimes life gets in the way.

I vote Klipsch out of the 3 brands you mentioned. They are very efficient speakers, and would go well with the Yamaha. What's your budget now? Things have changed quite a bit since Wednesday.

Thank you!! Issue with the 5.1 is living room ceiling and joist design, snaking the wires will be a pain plus I just painted and put down carpet so I wish I thought of this prior so I could run flat speaker wire

I am thinking of spending 200-300 on a new Denon receiver that is 4k ready so everything will be easier as the 2095 does not have any hdmis. can you recommend?

As for speakers my buddy has a wholesale account at definitive but they seem pricy. Budget is 300-500. I will check out Klipsch and their 3.1 setups unless you have any you can link? I also don’t know if I want to hang on wall left, center and right or just buy towers and mount the center under TV. After I get the under the TV furniture piece built, I will snap a photo to grab your opinion.

thanks! All of this is very helpful as I have been out if the game for many years!
