It's not a bad card, but there isn't really much reason to go with it at this point in time. You can get better cards for similar or only slightly higher prices. The Hercules Fortissimo III and the Philips Rhythmic Edge (PSC705 Version) would be better choices.
I am debating a similar thing, keeping my MX300 or upgrading....I only use 2.1 sound (Altec Lansing ADA885's), although once I get a house this year I will probably go for 5.1+.
Sound quality is the biggest concern though for me, since music playback is most of what I do.
the SBLive is a downgrade I believe to the MX300...not that it is a bad card, the SBLive is still a great card (like my MX300), I know the CPU utilization is higher, I also picked this over the SBLive! at the time via opinions here , I had this card a long time now
