XtremeGamer for $60 AR is a better deal. $21 for 62MB of cheap SDRAM is crazy. Plus with the non-Fatard1ty you get half-height goodness, Intel HD standard case pins, optical output jack and same SPDIF I/O pins.

Prices on all of the Creative Labs cards will be dropping soon since Creative has no acceptable Vista drivers yet.

if your talking about this card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16829102006 then it's not nearly as good as the fatal1ty one. The sample rate is reduced to 96, from the 196 of the fatl1ty. You also lose some jacks in the process.

Change title to state "Proffesional Series"

The pro-series does NOT include the front bezel, but is exactly the same otherwiseas the regular XtremeGamer X-Fi Fatal1ty.

Also... I suspect there's been soo many rebates on Creative cards recently because a new version is probably gonna come out soon. I mean, the Fatal1ty is over a 1.5 years old! (http://www.creative.com/press/releases/welcome.asp?pid=12163) and I see reviews dating back to early Aug '05

@Raider1284

Check the specs at Creative's site. The XtremeGamer sports the same Specs as the Fatal1ty
version. The only difference is the X-Ram and support for the I/O drive bay.

Not true. Sample rate of both cards is 96 kHz. I don't mind losing the gameport, and gold plated connects are a gimmick. I like the color coding better. Plus, the flexjack on the XtremeGamer allows multiple I/O variations.

Ja, don't trust the specs on a retailer's site. The 96 & 192 kHz refer to diff'rent functions. Again, both cards are functionally and qualitatively the same in all regards save I/O and RAM. The cheaper XtremeGamer is better in connectivity than both the Fatard1ty and the XtremeMuzak. The proprietary connectors are variously a waste of space and/or hassle. Good riddance. The increased RAM capacity will be pointless with PCIe models (if not already) but in any case depend upon specific game support and certainly not worth such a premium.

correct me if I'm wrong but the X-Fi series simply isn't compatible with Vista, so this situation isn't gonna change until Creative releases new sound cards. X-Fi = on XP, on Vista.

you're wrong.

google "vista x-fi driver" you'll see beta drivers and discussions on how driver support is coming along.

I think the main issue is supporting all the features of a X-fi card in Vista is taking time....

Anyhow..... I still wish the guy who posted this thread would fix the title to state "Professional Series" as this "deal" doesn't include the I/O faceplate or IR remote.

well most of these beta drivers are over half a year old, BUT what I also found is this website: link
This is an official CL website and is quite informative imo. Maybe I should get one of those X-Fis....

I'll be picking one up, but the Fatal1ty FPS verion... not the one posted in this thread.

The Pro version lacks the fron 5.25" I/O drive bezel and IR remote.

Here's the current best deal on the Fatal1ty FPS currently that I can find. --> LINK

ordered an X-fi XtremeGamer finally, the one for $59.90 AR. Everything else would be overkill for me
