Sound card Help

Hey my Soundblaster Audigy 2 card seems to be dead. It was working and all of a sudden i get nothing but hissing sounds. my motherboard is an Asus P5w Dh deluxe so for now im using the onboard audio. My questions are

1) i installed the driver for on board audio but do i need to do anything with the drivers for the audigy card and if i do what (do i need to uninstall the audigy drivers)

Basically what do i need to do to prevent any conflicts with the current onboard sound and when i get a new card

Did you disable onboard audio in BIOS?

yes i did disable it in the bios. For the heck of it i went to soundblasters website and did the auto update and now the Sb card is working. Not sure why it went bad like that but as of now it working and now have the realtek onboard audio disabled
