Sound in counterstrike...

As anyone who has played counterstrike for a while knows, sound is of the utmost importance. Accurate 3d sound especially. I have been experimenting with different things - grado sr-60 headphones, x-gamer 5.1, and dtt3500. Is there such a thing as an 8 speaker setup for a computer? Someone needs to make some sort of ultra positional audo headphones, 5.1 headphones or something. Maybe a helmet with a viewscreen like the virtual nintendo thing and surrounded by small speakers.
do you own people using your sound system? what do you use

I play CS all the time, and I just use some decent Boston Acoustics speakers that came with my computer. Nothing special or anything, but i'm not complaining. I'm wondering if a headset would possible work better, it would probably eliminate some of the outside noise also. Can anyone suggest a good headset for gaming?

I use the cheesy Cambridge sound 4.1 sound system with all four speakers in the correct locations to achieve the optimal experience. With this setup, I hear around corners when people change their guns, reload, or run. With EAX or A3D, you can hear plenty of things. Heck, when you tweak the sound settings some, you can hear much further than you normally should in CS (i.e. hallway in de_dust, I can hear people buying stuff at T spawn).

I use Grado sr-60 headphones. 60 bucks. They have awesome sound.
I didnt notice a difference using the x-gamer over the live! value sound card.

I either use my Force Feedback headphones which make my head feel weird after playing for hours. Vibrates...whew, nutz~! I have my dtt2500 which I love....You don't need better then that. I can tell exactly where what and who are coming from...I was even playing on my old Boston's with some cheap Yamaha as my rear....sounded perfect too.

I use some nice sony headphones. The art is learning to stop and think where the sound is coming from..the 3d is good, occasionally gets you shot in the back..

<< and what are these sound tweaks you speak of vash? >>

Forgot where I saw them, but you basically turn up the values of EAX/A3D to the max (it may have been specific to EAX). I think it was on a tweaking site (perhaps tweak3d.net, but I'm not sure), but it can definitely help a bit.

I've seen turned them off to stick with as much of the "default" values in CS because I don't want to rely on something that may not be there when I play in a tournament. Even with the stock settings in CS, EAX/A3D and a proper speaker setup can mean life or death.

I use Monsooon MM-1000's

i use an MX300 in win98se w/ a 2.1 altec lansing ACS45.1 speaker set-up...

i can tell EXACTLY where any player is, if they're making a noise.

however, if i use my headphones, I can't....i think it's because i'm used to playing w/ speakers, and rarely play w/ headphones on...the A3D for headphones is supposed to be exceptionally good.

number.
