Sound Problem in XP

Since I've installed XP I no longer have sound on my rear speakers. I have tried to remove the Windows drivers and install the newest Creative drivers to no avail.

I used the sound test within Creatives Audio HQ and all of the speakers have sound, however there is no sound, in any application (winamp, Quicktime, NHL2002, Diablo2 etc) from the rear speakers.

Here is my setup:

Athlon 900
Asus K7M
512 meg Crucial PC133
Soundblaster Live Value
Klipsch Promedia 4.1
Guillemot Geforce 2 GTS.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

My suggestion is go to operating system and there is a nice thread sticky to the top, it should help you out in that problem and maybe more of your problems. It is XP guide by jfall.

Check what your speakers are set to in Audio HQ. They should be set to surround if you want all 4 speakers to operate.

Sorry, I should have mentioned in my initial post, that I had verified the settings in both AudioHQ and in XP's Sound settings. In both areas the surround sound settings have been selected.

You said you tried removing the windows drivers with no avail, then you didn't install the new ones?
If so did it come up with an errror msg.
Winamp you can usually revert back to the old winamp and it will run four speakers.
top left of the winamp player/options/preferences/v2.0 will sometimes fix that problem.

Again I apologize for not being clear. When I uninstalled the Windows default driver, I installed the newest Creative drivers. I've never received any error messages.

I'm having the same problem w/ my SBLive Value. Here's what I've done...

I downloaded the updated SB Live driver from MS update web site and installed it. Now only my 2 front speakers work.

I then downloaded the driver from Creative's website and installed it. Only 2 speakers work still. I downloaded them from:

http://www.soundblaster.com/support/winxp/sblivedrvupdate.asp

Uninstalled the SB card from device manager after the MS update and the Creative update.

After the MS update, verified that the speakers were set to Quad (this was the setting they were working on before prior to the update, the 5.1 setting emmits no sound)

Switched the ports in the back to verify that the speakers are working.

With the Creative driver installed, tried to switch the speaker settings to 4 speakers, but the speaker setting generaters a Windows error and won't open.

Any ideas?

If anything, how can I remove the updated drivers and load it from the CD?

It's Windows XP build 2600 evaluation copy.

I should modify this by saying that they were working before I updated.

I guess I should learn not to fix what ain't broken.
