Sound problem - out of ideas

hi, Been reading your woes and thought i'd try brainstorming with the rest of you guys... So works in 98 not in 00... Interesting. That kinda rules out hardware i spose. The immeidiate difference i see between those two o/s is the way they handle IRQs. 2000 has irq routing that puts loads of kit on one irq. I wonder if this is part of the prob.. I seem to recall there was a patch for this (or was that Millenium).

Is the board sharing with anything? the theory is although irq sharing works, if it's sharing with something that is particuarly demanding...well you know!!

Perhaps you could try nad force it in the bios. Just my 2cents worth...

Well its gone....

Over the last month I've formatted twice, played around with drivers, even moved the box around the house hoping to get rid of the static. On my main hd i had 3 partitions. One for win98, one for win2k, and one for whatever. I kept formatting the partition for win2k and reinstalling. Well this time I blew away all the partitions and started from scratch, this time without win98 since I rarely use it (but I doubt that had any effect on the static going away). Now theres no static. It was painful but its better now
