Well the problem that I have is that the sound bars dont work in " sound properties ". I mean that is that if you move them up or down the volume of the sound doesnt change. I can only increase and decrease the volume by winamp or sound main volume controller which is behind the sub. In direct X diagnostics it says " The file EMU10K1.VXD is not digitally signed, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs. You may be able to get a signed driver from the manufacturer of the hardware device " in the sound tab.

I got the sound card drivers from soundblaster.com, is there a different place to get drivers for my sound card? Or a way to fix this?

well, first thing i'd do is download the newest drivers...then, remove soundcard from device manager...reboot, and install new drivers.

ya i tried that. I got the latest drivers from soundblaster.com, removed the sound card from device manager but the drivers are in the registry so the drivers would reinstall by them selve. But this problem also happened in windows98, and i have tried 3 other sound cards, same problem. Could it be the mobo?

wow, that's crazy.

hmm..does the mobo have onboard sound? if so,you should make sure you disable it in the bios

otherwise...hmm...can't say i have any other ideas!

re-install windows?

yeah, I know the feelin when it keeps installing the old drivers, you need to uninstall the sound card from device manager a few times, to make sure that it doesn't auto find the drivers on the computer, if that doesn't work, go into the registry and delete the entry for the sound card. Normally, I leave my computer volume up all the way and adjust the volume on the speakers themselves tho. (will prevent buzzing)

Have you tried a different PCI slot on your MB? try one of the last 2 slots and see if it helps

Ok this is what I did. I found these hidden onboard sound things in bios and disabled everything. The Sb Live! 5.1 x-gamer installed fine, the sound properties bar works fine but when playing sound the sound crackles. So im guessing its the sound card itself. Cause with the Value it doesnt do that.

I figured to reinstall my SB Live! value since the sound properties matter is fixed but when i put the sb Live! value back in the drivers re-installed by them selves. So now the sound bars dont work in sound properties and the onboard sound is disabled. Just to test this out I put my x-gamer 5.1 back in and the sound properties is fixed but the sound crackles.

How can i remove all the sound blaster drivers and entries from my registry? Where do I go? I know its regedit in run but I dont know where to go from there.

Ok this is the update.

I went to my Mobo's bios and turned off all the oboard sound and the onboard soundcard. The windowsME sound properties works fine and the sound card is installed fine. But when playing music the sound crackles. And now this is for both the Sb Live Value and the SB Live 5.1 x-gamer. Now i know its not windows or the sound card itself. Could this be my mobos? Causeing some kind of conflicts with my sound card? I mean the sound crackles when the onboard sound is turned off but it doesnt crackle when its turned on but then the sound properties volume bars dont work. I just got this mobo and I really dont want to buy a new one.

Thanks for the help. Im all out of ideas.
