Sound quit working

The other day my sound was fine. but then yesterday when I came home it stopped. Its not the volume down, or that the speakers are incorrectly connected, or that the speakers are dead (i checked). In Device Manager it shows no conflicts or problems with anything, yet I get no sound. Everything (like winamp) appears to play the sound, but nothing is reprouduced into my speakers. When I go to volume control and press mute all it makes my speakers click, also when I just mute AUX, I know I didnt plug it into the aux port...

what kind of sound card are you using?
did you install anything new or change any of the settings anywhere on your computer?

I am using the onboard sound on my Soyo K7ADA, and I havent installed anything or changed anything lately.

i'm guess you've already tried something as simple as restarting the computer... (you never know though)
have you tried reinstalling the drivers?
what OS are you using?

Yes, ive reinstalled the drivers, have restarted, hell I even did system restore to a few days back. I am using Windows XP Professional.

hey.. this happened to me too.. and it pissed the hell out of me.. I couldnt figure out what to do.. I installed all the drivers over again but that didnt work.. the sound kept coming and going.. it was wierd.. Its fixed now though and I fixed it by updating the sound driver.. it was wierd.. but now my sound is working all the time.. hopefullly getting the newest driver for the card will help.. I am running windows xp pro also.maybe its a glitch

The driver I got was for 9x/2k because there was no xp, i installed it, nothing still, so I rolled back to the XP driver that was assigned for it. Still no fix.
