I'm not sure if its the sound card or a firewire card, but if its both I think its a hot deal.

an even better deal is here for $65 at mwave.com. look under "CREATIVE LABS SOUNDBLASTER AUDIGY SB1394 FIREWIRE (Model #SB0090) (White box)." this is the OEM or "white box" version of the new audigy line of cards. this means no extra software like games, audio editors, etc. which i consider a waste anyway and no live drive as comes with the platinum. a good buy from mwave who have been a pretty good reseller in my dealings with them.

Just like to point out if yo ualready have a live plat you can use your existing livedrive with these.

The oem version of Audigy uses colored plastic connectors instead of the golden metal connectors found in the retail version,
however, there are no difference in the card itself as well as no difference in parts been used to make the card.

Audigy is a pretty good card consider at least creative will provide driver support for most os and the sound quality at least
is to par with MX300...actually sb live value has really bad sound quality and regular sb live is better but not by much..
anyway..their sound qualitis are inferior to MX300 or SQ2500..(less bass, less treble, less mid range, less details, and overall
the sound is more dead and clouded)

Audigy improved a lot in sound quality and the 3d positioning is better than the original live..but when using headphone or
two speaker setting..au8830 still out perform it by quite a fair margin..

I guess 1394 is a nice touch and not a bad thing to have..

Is there any advantage to using a firewire card vs. PCI soundcard?

Is there any other hardware required to use this firewire soundcard?

Does anyone know if this card has drivers or native support in Win XP?

the old live drive doesn't have that firewire port...

The soundcard itself is not a firewire card...it is still a PCI card that adds an IEEE1394 firewire port. I've not heard of any issues with XP as far as drivers are concerned.

But the livedriver still works fine
