I haven't heard anything about this and saw it on www.creative.com's frontpage. I can't seem to get to any of the specification pages, but is this a lower end sound solution than an audigy or higher end?

Creative's Website. I'm not sure if it's one of those dynamic pages where random content pops up, but for me, the mainpage pops up a big picture of the extigy.

Thanks. I wonder if you'll get better sound quality because it's an external solution? It is removed from all the interference inside the computer, so if it really is an external audigy, it should in fact, be slightly better?

Not sure about sound quality but passing sound data over USB doesn't, um, sound great for performance.

it all depends on the quality of the DACs. Of course, if it uses (or can make use of) USB 2.0, then we're talking.

While the feature set looks very similar to the Audigy Creative says it use a different chip and that gamers will find the Audigy to performance much better. The Extigy still support positional audio and EAX 2.0 though. Other difference is no ASIO support.

The decoding is in hardware unlike the Audigy and Live 5.1 which does that part in software.
