Soundblaster - No Subwoofer Out? eh?

Well I upgraded several things at once recently, including my home theatre, which left me with a reciever and 5 Athena speakers + a Sub. So I decided that these would work wonderfully with my new X-Fi Platinum card.

I'm assuming that I have everything setup correctly by going from the 1/8" jacks on my X-Fi back to the RCA 5.1 inputs on my reciever. When it comes to playing movies and music, it's nothing short of amazing. However, when I play games (particullary Battlefield 2 with the Ultra-High X-Fi setting turned on) I am getting absoloutly no output to my subwoofer? Is this correct? I'm pretty sure that everything is physically setup correct b/c I get sub output in movies via Windows Media Player. I've also gone into the THX setup control panel that Soundblaster gives you and I can click the Subwoofer Icon or press the 'Test Channels' and I get sub output.

Any ideas? Any suggestions? Or is this the way it was designed?

I do have the option to run my FL/FR speakers through my sub and set a crossover freq on the actual sub...but this seemed uneccessary b/c I was assuming that my X-Fi would output a sub signal in games....

Thanks in advance.

I assume so....Whenever you setup what kind of sound system you have, Soundblaster lets you choose 4.1,5.1,6.1,7.1. With all those x.1's I'd assume that they would actually USE the sub in games. I could definatly be wrong though.

So are you saying that some games support a 5.1 setup and some only a 5.0? How would I find this out? All I see about BF2 is their "Uber-Ultra-High-Enormous-Big Sound Quality" setting that you can only choose when you have an X-Fi card.

I don't have BF2 so I don't know what the settings are for audio. Some games have you select what kind of speaker you have. If it were set to stereo or something, then you're sub wouldn't be getting its own discrete signal. Are all 5 speakers working and just not the sub?

Yea, all the speakers work in the game just fine. And even the sub works out of the game....just not in games.

Thanks again and again YOyo...you always try and help me out

Hehe, np

And btw, I did try playing HL2 which actually specifies '5.1 Speakers' in the in-game options; but still no subwoofer out .

Eh? Why?

The *.1 in the HL2 menu indicates that there is a subwoofer. However my subwoofer line out does not output sound in HL2. I was just curious if anyone knows where in the chain my kink is, because I sure as hell can't find it.
