South Dakota bans abortion

I got an email today with an article about how a bill was passed banning abortion in South Dakota, going against Roe v. Wade and opening it all up to Supreme Court decision.

I'm so pissed and disappointed right now I can't even see straight.

somehow I don't think this will set a precedent for the rest of the USA

The point is, since it's obviously unconstitutional, it could very possibly be appealed to the Supreme Court, and then all the conservatives there will have to "re-evaluate" Roe v. Wade, in other words totally take it apart, and in a few years it could be banned altogether.

Have you ever been to MN? Doubt it. There is actually a city in MN with more than the whole population of South Dakota. Actually theres 2. Dont judge the whole state because of the Viking/boat incident. I also didnt know that the Mayo Clinic, the IBM that made the cell proc, and the place where Quicktrip originated from were concidered a friggin frigid wasteland. Oh MN has its places where its cold, but the plains of N & S Dakota, Montana, Colorado, Utah, and Alaska are MUCH colder than MN.

So the line you draw between a real person and non person is w/ delivery? So then what if a woman in the third trimester requests an abortion. She does not give a reason and there does not appear to be any danger in her health. So in this case you believe it is not her choice?

OK, at first it sounds bad since all 200 people who live in the state would be affected. That's a lot of people. But let's think about this.
Only about half of those people will be women, so that's 100.
Now, we break out the statistics book.
~20% of people are morally opposed to abortion, so that's 20 people out.
The age distribution is such that at least 50% of the women would not be of childbearing age, so that's 50 people out.
That leaves 30 people. Of those, only two of them are likely to be pregnant, and one of them just moved to Minnesota, so that leaves only one person affected by this new law.

Now tell me, does it make sense to overturn a potential law just because of one person?

Hmm good point. It's pretty impossible to answer though. Either I'd have to say that the fetus is a person in the third trimester, in which case why is it OK to kill that person? Should I kill the next smoker that lights up near me? He would be damaging my health. Or I'd have to say that a woman can choose to abort at any time, which I don't think should be the case in the third trimester. What do you think?
