I was born in Birmingham, AL then my parents packed up the wagon (kidding) and moved to Tuscaloosa when I was 12. I've lived around all kinds of races all my life and I also have mixed races in my family, these things doesn't bother me one bit. JMO, I think that several people that have never lived in the south have the wrong image, you can find rednecks and racisms everywhere in the country.

low cost of living, high wages, people that actually have manners coupled with women that know how to treat their man and know what fun is.

I'm checking in and loving it.

Very proud of being a southern-american.

I'll give you the woman thing. There's nothing like hot Southern boobies bouncing in your face followed by a big plate of sausage gravy and biscuits.

You forgot grits. Loves me some grits here in South Caka-lacky (South Carolina for those confused non-southerners).

Yes, I certainly did. I likes my grits with bacon.

Oh yeah, grits without some bacon crumbled in 'em just ain't good grits.

I'm from Oklahoma, lived in the west, midwest, east and now south. I love my hometown in Oklahoma, but I love the south, especially Atlanta. Atlanta has an incredible concentration of beautiful women. I've never seen anything like it. Charlotte is a fine city as well.

The southern stigma only lives with the ignorants that haven't traveled beyond their region.

Charlottean here.

yankee born and raised stuck in the south(GA). South is alright except for the damn heat, no winter, growing too damn fast, no real walleye fishing, deer are mostly the size of a german sheppard, no good pizza joints around, and the schools suck.

I've lived in the South, New England, and Cali. People in the South are definitely more polite on the face of it.

Grew up in Seattle. Since leaving home I've lived in Indiana, Maryland, and now Columbia, SC. I haven't really noticed SC being all that different than anywhere else. Strip malls and Applebee's are universal these days. I have noticed a few things:

1) People are fatter
2) Houses are cheaper
3) The weather sucks a$$
4) The Southern accent is not all that common
5) The food is good if you like an early death

I suspect that 1), 3), & 5) are all related.

God, I hate Columbia, it's like SC's armpit. The humidity down there is horendous and I've lived in Greenville all my life (pretty humid summer days here).

Having said that, nothing beats a kick ass Southern humidity thunderstorm and the cooling effect afterwards.

I grab a cold beer and sit on the porch every chance I get for a thunderstorm.

Tupelo, MS here.

I'm located midway between Memphis and Birmingham and the town is best known as being the birthplace of Elvis.

Unfortunately, the humidity goes right back up after about 30 minutes.

Before you make your blanket statements, you might want to have some facts to back it up.

From tolerance.org's list of registerred hate groups

Pick out the states that you deem to be in the "South" and add up the recognized hate groups. Then pick out other various geographical regions of the USA. Compare the two. You'll see -- unfortunately hatred runs rampant in the South.

52 hate groups in CA alone...bigotry & racism isn't confined to the South.

Never said it was and I recognized that point when I looked it up. That's why I asked to group the geographical "South" as well as others. On the whole, it's (South) a couple hundred percent over any other grographical region.
