Just got in the mail a flyer that says Southwest has 10% off on flights from 1-6 to 3-12. Tickets must be purchased between 1-3 and 1-17. There is a post over at Chubby that has the code.

I must SWA definitely is not a perfect airline... but it's affordable and gets you to your destination.

But more than half my flights have been delayed atleast a hour... whether departing from California or Oregon... every flight I had departing Portland have been delayed atleast a hour... overall, it's still all good..

I only fly SWA because of their reliable departure and arrival times. I have never had my luggage lost when flying with them. If you want frills, go somewhere else. If you want to leave on time and arrive on time, fly SW.

i friggin' love southwest... the only time they ever had a late flight that i was on, they started playing trivia with everyone in the lobby and handed out like $2000 worth of vouchers as prizes.

I like Southwest. They're the coolest airline I know. The people that work there actually seem happy. The employees at other airlines act like they're doing you a favor by letting you onto their planes.

I agree that Southwest is one of the friendlier airlines. United is trying to be more "customer friendly" now, but it seems mostly false to me. When I flew back on United recently after New Years the lady at the desk said "Thank you for your patience sir" in a tone that sounded more like she was telling me to go to hell

I think people who bash SW do it mostly to sound superior (I mean this generally), SW is the only airline that serves many cities non-stop. If you live in a smaller city then SW is sometimes your option for a non-stop flight. Sometimes you just need to leave in the evening and get somewhere without a 5hr travel time due to stopovers. SW is also the best airline to fly if you aren't sure of when you'll need to leave a city, the fully refundable fares are amazingly reasonable and allow you to do whatever you want with them. On weekdays the flights tend to have a good percentage of corporate travellers in them for these reasons.

That having been said, I will still fly another airline if my schedule and ahead booking time allow for a reasonable fare with the other airline.

Also, I just read the rules and they don't say anything is wrong with this:

Anytime sombody says something about "chubby" or "chubby wallet" or "obese wallet" they are referring to www.fatwallet.com, go there and look around.

If this is in violation of the rules of Hot Deals forum then please delete this post.

i fly SWA about every week or so, sometimes 2x in a week. Pretty much if SWA is an optiono to fly from point A to point B, I will pick it over any other airline. Their check-in procedure is fast (even faster now that you can do it in less than 30 seconds by yourself before the security line) and if you only have 1 carry-on like me, then it's great. Actually last weekend they delayed my friend's bags an hour because they accidentally put it on the flight behind us, and the guy gave us $150 voucher. That's more than what the flight cost

At any rate, yes the service is very friendly, friendlier than any other airline. The Rapid Rewards program is just off the hook, I get a free plane ticket almost every month...

Another vote in favor of SW airlines. In addition to what others have mentioned:

You can actually use the free tickets from their rapid rewards program as long as a seat is available. American and probably others, limit the number of seats on a flight that can be booked with the advertised # of airline miles.

They don't play games with fares. You'll pay a higher fare for a longer distance on SWA. Other airlines set prices solely based on competition and the number of days in advance that you purchase the ticket. If there is no competition between cities, they'll ream you. If you change your travel plans at the last minute, SWA simply charges you the difference between what you paid and full fare (generally less than $100). I've been quoted $1,500 from other airlines to change just one leg of a round trip ticket.

In my experience, they're much faster unloading luggage.

Based on a 5 year average, they have the best safety record: Text

southwest is an awesome airline. affordable fares, friendly flight attendants, and good frequent flyer program.

and the fact that they were only one of a handful of airlines that was profitable last year says something about them knowing how to run a business.

Speaking as someone that had to write a business case on SouthWest, trust me when I say that they are hands down the best in the industry. It's a good part of the reason they're one of few profitable airlines. I could go on for days about all the things they do that make them better but suffice it to say, the airline industry would be far worse off without them.

Maybe the reference to "Chubby" was because Southwest charges large fliers for two seats. Of course, as Americans get fatter and fatter, that means more and more of us, especially since the airlines keep reducing the size of coach seats. On Southwest the seats are only 18.75" across. That would make an anorexic midget feel claustrophobic.

They don't call Southwest planes flying cattle cars for nothing. They are a joke. You don't get assigned a seat so you have to take a number and hope and pray you get to sit with your spouse. Their prices are no bargain either. Every flight I've priced against them for where my wife and I have flown, Northwest is always a similar price (eg cheaper, same, or only slightly more).
Either way I'd gladly pay extra to insure that I get to sit next to my wife.

Still, 10% off is 10% off...

thank god they do! i hope more airlines follow the lead. you have absolutely no idea how much a person's mid-area overflowing into your seat can make an already stressful experience many times worse.

We ALWAYS fly SW when we can. The boarding pass issue is a no-brainer. You just get to the boarding gate area an hour before the flight and get one of the first numbered passes. We always get the exact type of seats we want, whether an isle or window.

I prefer not to fly Southwest because they fly out of Midway in Chicago, and thats a hassle for me, plus they dont have the most direct flights for me... I go to Dallas alot and DFW is alot easier then Dallas Loves Airport. Also they dont even have direct flights between Chicago and Dallas.. you HAVE to have an stop between the 2. Im a taller person 6'4" so I LOVE the extra space in coach American offers. And American has many flight sales which work really well for me... Weekend Getaways... like I am flying between Chicago O'Hare to Dallas/Fort Worth and back for $139. I wont fly American if its a flight I need to book a week ahead of time unless its a weekend getaway fare because yes they do charge outrageous prices if you dont book well ahead of time.
