Alright, I went and exchanged it. This panel doesn't seem to have any black line issue. Everything else is the same except its just a tad bit brighter at the same settings. I set the color on User, exited out without changing anything, went back in and it said R/G/B was 50/50/38. Set the brightness at 30 and contrast at 60. Also, set the color profile in display settings to the first file Viper GTS uploaded. I don't know if it made a difference but everything looks great. Blinding even. I may have to set the brightness to 25 for internet usage.

Funny thing happened at the store. There was a guy there buying the last Soyo because he couldn't find the Viewsonic that he really wanted. The rep found it after he had already made the purchase. So he went and returned the Soyo and bought it. He returned it because he was a self professed gamer and needed the lower response time. I went ahead and checked the Viewsonic in question (the VX2035wm). Turns out, he gave up a 24 inch, 8-bit, 1920x1200, 500 nit, 1000:1 contrast, 6ms response, VA panel for a 20.1 inch, 6-bit, 1680x1050, 300 nit, 800:1, 5ms response, TN panel. Good thing he didn't want it cause it was the only one left I could exchange mine for. Laughed all the way to my car. And all the way home too. Hell, I'm still laughing.

Anyway, enough rambling. I do have one question about the color profile. I don't usually calibrate my monitors and all that so I was wondering if theres anything I need to do with the .icc file. I set it in the properties but nothing really obvious happened, is there something else I'm forgetting?

Thanks in advance.

Wait, you laughed because he got the Viewsonic and you got the Soyo?? You may want to hold off on those laughs. It may be a "better" monitor on paper and in iniial tests but the jury is still out on how long the thing lasts.. I got one too and have yet to hook it up, but I am not expecting much nor for it to last..

Ummm...isn't that why you buy the extended warranty for $49 bucks???

Also for those of you who have the Ergotron NeoFlex Arm this monitor will work with it - barely. The Neoflex is designed for up to 20" LCDs and 18 pounds. I don't know what the Soyo is but if the arm joints are tightened really tight it will work, at least with the one on my desk - I have the extension too...

I got one at the local OM the other night. It's my 1st LCD and it looks great to me. Using the ICC file posted here. moved up from a 19" Samsung CRT, and this thing is HUGE.
I hear no buzzing with mine....

My only issue is that I don't see the boot screen or anything till windows loads, XP or Vista. My video card is a X700 pro 256 mb. I'm using the native res 1920x1200. This is not normal is it ? ? ?
What would be the possible cause, do I need to change some setting somewhere or what.
any ideas

found the answer to the no boot screen with a little google help, I switched to VGA cable to make bios adjustments, I really don't see any diff between the DVI or VGA cable, looks great with either.

thanks for the tip on this by the way, I had been looking to get a LCD for a while and I wanted a large one 20" or better, but just couldn't bring myself to spend that much. Hope this lasts for a good long while.

if anyone cares very detailed specs for the panel are HERE, PDF file

Deal dead? I no longer see it on their website.
When I called in on Thursday night, the CSR said this was going to be discontinued. I was like, well I will work on that over the weekend...
damn, looks like I missed it by a hair

I picked another one up today in Longmont, CO at $313.26 out the door. They still have another one. Like the OM in Boulder they just had 2 units but didn't display them. In each store I had to ask for them. The CSR that was helping me in Longmont was trying to sell me a 20 inch Samsung or Viewsonic because he just bought one and loved it. He didn't even know about the 24 inch Soyo that they had on sale.

Is anyone aware of an inexpensive stand that would allow me to mount this in portrait mode on my desk?

I don't watch movies on my computer and most of the documetns I use are vertical, not horizontal. I think I'd get a lot more out of this monitor if it were vertical.

they wouldnt take the $10 coupon, bummer (YMMV for you there)
also, they had a glossy panel sitting next to me. I personally really liked it but the size + lower cost won me over. Although I have said earlier size wouldnt matter, I forgot that I was coming from a 22'' trinitron - kinda hard to go smaller (or similar viewing size wize but oh well)

I set my colors to 38/39/35, everything looks alright. Not quite the diamondtron I am used to, but for size this is more than decent. Now, anyone has a suggestion for contrast/brightness?

EDIT: pls refer to chapter VI of the LCD guide sticky found in Video Cards and Graphics forum. Once I had the icc file loaded, things are starting to look A LOT better. Now I am more than happy to say the least

on one hand, I have noticed how rapidly these large LCDs are declining in price. Then again, I heard stories of how the panel makers are shedding their profits to the minimum to stay competitive...

Well, I've been playing around with the settings trying to get it perfect and I must say I can't use either of the profiles Viper uploaded. Turns out that with all RGB settings on the default 38/38/38 there is in fact a reddish bias on my panel. So the profiles end up making my screen way too warm almost like 5000K. So I ended up throwing everything out, reset the monitor and started all over. Now I've got it set on user default RGB (38/38/38) because if I lower any of them even a tiny bit it throws it off worse somehow. The brightness at 40 and contrast at 50 gives me a near perfect grayscale. I can start detecting non-black at RGB = 3,3,3 which I think is alright. Everything looks very nice and the slight red bias is so slight that sometimes I think I'm imagining it. Guess my eyes or the lighting is changing throughout the day.

One question to people who have had 8-bit panels before or at least used them for awhile. I'm coming to this monitor from a history of using nothing but TN panels. So, I must ask, does everything really look like this? The colors are so strong and vibrant on everything I look at, it makes me think something is wrong. Every website I go to looks different. Is the Newegg logo really that orange?

Anyway, thanks for any responses.

I must say, reluctantly, what you got there is a lemon..
are you sure you are following xtknight's guide to load the icc profile? mine did look kinda odd before doing so.

I don't think he has a lemon. I went through 3 of these monitors in a quest to get one without the buzzing sound. I was unsucessful, but since I can't hear the sound under normal use, I decided to live with it. So I've had 3 of these LCDs, using all of them for at least 8 hours. The colors on all of them were slightly different. On the first one, the icc profile looked very good. On the second one, it did not look all that well - too much blue. I was able to adjust them to my liking, and after manual adjustment the picture quality was as good as the first one. On my third (and final) LCD, the ics profile looks better, but not as good as one my first LCD. To get the best experience I still tweaked it a little. So I don't think that the ics files will necessarily work for all panels.

I too have the slight buzzing sound but I can only notice it if nothing else in the room is turned on.

At first I thought the profile was working fine but then I found it wasn't being applied correctly. I used Adobe Gamma to load it up and thats when i noticed it was too warm. So I took them out of the equation entirely. I also had the contrast too high and it was washing out the upper end of the grayscale so I had to set it down to 50 and the brightness up higher to 40 to make out the lower end. I can make out dark scenes in movies and games far better than before and the colors look pretty good to my eye. It's just that they're far stronger than I'm accustomed to.

As a side note, now that I've spent a couple days trying to figure out all this calibration stuff and tweaking and fine tuning the monitor, it's become really hard to sit back and enjoy a movie when all I can see is film grain and compression artifacts. Even in HD resolutions. It's become really obvious now with a properly calibrated monitor. This happen to anyone else?

One last question, when you go into the user color settings in the monitor's OSD, do the Red and Green values show a higher number but when you go to change them it jumps back to the correct number? The color of the monitor doesn't change but the numbers are off. I ask because it did on the monitor I had before I exchanged for this one and I'm wondering if it's a common thing.

Mine does the same thing, which is why my initial reported RGB values were wrong. My impression is that the lower numbers are correct.

Just a heads up, mine has been acting up, after 30 mins the screen turns bright white and stay that way. I even disconnected the dvi and turning it off and then on, it is still bright white with "no source" warning barely legible.

If I wait 10 minutes it will be fine again for another 30 mins. I am going to take it back. I might even get the extend warranty.

When I hook up this monitor, the display shows up for about a second. Then the monitor goes to black. If I boot up with the monitor connected to my PC, each time the screen refreshes (from one boot up sequence display to another), the monitor "wakes up" with each change, and promptly goes to black after about a second or so of the screen being displayed.

Also, while the computer is on, if I disconnect and reconnect the monitor (via the VGA cable), I get the same results - the monitor shows a display for about a second after I connect (or reconnect) it and then goes to black.

Is there a setting I am overlooking?

Do these guys have a tech support phone number? I couldn't find one in the manual.

Any help will be *greatly* appreciated.

Thanks.

Some complained about a buzz coming from the monitor. While I too noticed the buzz, part of that buzz was noise from the speaker amp. turn down the volume and it gets a lot quieter, even if you are not using the speaker.

I suspect you have a video driver (AIW) and monitor compatibility problem.
