Soyo barebones kit all built -- won't start up

I just fired up my first homebuilt PC (from a Soyo barebones kit): the pretty lights came on, it sounded like the drive was spinning up, and then, after no more than five seconds, it simply shut down. No attempt to restart it has been successful. I don't know where to go from here.

I *do* have my suspicions: though Soyo claims this is a 350 watt power supply, the specs checked on the side of the PS run like so:

Rexpower PX-350
Output:
+3.3V@20A
+5V@40A
Max: 200W
+12v@16A
-5V@0.5A
-12V@0.8A
+5Vsb@2.5A

This sounds pretty weak-dick to me.

Is there some sort of reset I should try -- CMOS clear, maybe?

The system:
Soyo K7VME/Athlon 2800XP+ (Barton)/Thermaltake TR2 M2, in Soyo's notorious power-supply-right-on-top-of-cpu-fan case
Ultra PC2700 DDR 333MHz 512MB x 2
Chaintech GeForce FX 5700 / 256MB DDR / AGP 8X
Western Digital Caviar 200GB HD (Default/Cable Select on IDE1) -- is THIS correct? The HD is the only device on IDE1, connected to the last connector on the ribbon.
52X generic CD-ROM drive (Master on IDE2)
Megastor (NEC) Dual Layer DVD Burner combo drive (Slave on IDE2)
Mitsumi FDD/multi-media reader

CPU FSB Jumper (JP3) set to 166MHz (for 333MHz FSB) -- is THIS correct?

And yes, I bought Microsoft Windows XP Home Full Version -- obviously not yet installed...

Please help!

Check to be sure you have the heatsink and thermal pad/paste installed correctly. It is possible the chip overheated. Oh and the HD should not be on cable check if its the only thing on the ide cable it should be jumpered 6 and 4. Also double check the FSB jumper, the SOYO manual is very confusing as to which direction is correct for 166 mhz.

Thanks for the hot tips, all of which I've already been through (check the rest of the thread, maybe?). As for RTFM, have you ever SEEN a Soyo manual? Apparently translated from the original Mandarin through Babelfish, it's as much help as your post was.

Cheers

Check the rest of what thread???? Having a thread requires posts, mine was the first response to your post asm0deus?s was the second. So what are we supposed to read!?

Secondly, I have seen the soyo manual since I have the same POS barebones kit as you. Nobody told you RTFM. What I told you is that the frontside buffer jumper picture is confusing. More specifically the picture in the manual is sideways meaning that setting the FSB to 166 requires placing the jumper horizontally on the bottom two pins not vertically on the two pins on the left. If you knew that good for you, if not your welcome. Anyway being rude to someone?s honest attempts to help you is completely unnecessary. If you don?t like the advice say nothing and move on, but don?t be rude. Saying the SOYO manual is a piece of cr*p and then saying my post is equally helpful is just plain rude.

Kuhl yer jets dewd -- if you expand out the entire thread, which now contains six messages (seven when I post this one), you'll readily apprehend that I was NOT responding to *your* post, but to the typical hacker wannabee all lowercase name with a capital letter in the middle AsmØdeus (which I thought was a hemorrhoid cream), whose post read, in part, "double check all cabling and jumpers, rtfm and then start disconnecting stuff until it works."

Check it out: your post was today at 4:41pm, AsmØdeus posted his wisdom at 4:48pm, and I posted my reply to AsmØdeus at 5:16pm.

These misunderstandings are how wars start!

My guess is you're either shorting out, your RAM isn't seated right, or your HSF is on backwards.

Settle down, have a  and chill - it's just "Teh IntArw3b"
