Forgive me if I read too much into your comment "I'm new to this computer stuff" but ...
While I am no hardware geek by any means, I do have a compsci masters from a major university & built my first computer almost twenty years ago, soldering individual resistors into the PCB , so I'm not totally ignorant either. I just happen to be putting together a replacement for my home Celeron300A, so I'm a lot more up to date on my MBs than I normally would be.
Of the two boards you are considering, from what I've read on the one hand you have:
a board that is praised in nearly every revew I have read (and there are at least a dozen), near the cutting edge of performance & features, yet is still based upon a revision of a well-established board design & chipset. Furthermore lots of other folks are getting this board, so you might get some feedback if you have problems. Other than needing to doa VBIOS revision, setup appears to go easily for most.
while on the other you have:
a board so new it only has one or two superficial reviews & is based upon a chipset that has been problematic in the past. Perhaps the only strength it has is in overclocking capability & raw capability of the onboard RAID. Who knows what problems may be encounterd, because hardly anyone has this board yet.
Now, I know which one I would recommend to someone who is "new to all this"
If you want any more specific advice, btw, you might want to take the time to post exactly what kind of features you want & what is & isn't important to you. maybe there is a third board that will serve you better.
