Disable the RAID Controller and install the OS on the
Primary IDE channel.

After the OS is up and running, install the driver for the
RAID controller and shutdown the PC.

Disconnect the drive from the Primary IDE Channel and
connect the drives to the RAID Controller.

Power up and enable the RAID in the BIOS.

Then setup your RAID.

You had the OS installed and working?

Do you get the NTLDR Missing error after enabling the ARRAY?

here is what i did. I plugged one of my hard drives that was hooked up on raid to the primary ide channel. then i installed windows xp pro on it. then i shut down plugged the hard drive back into the raid controller, booted up my computer and enabled raid through bios. then it gave me that gay error. I dont understand why windows xp has such a problem with raid drivers. is it really worth all the trouble i am going through, is raid really that much better?

are you sure you set up your bios to boot from your Raid or 'SCSI' controller? as compared to it booting to your primary IDE master (C:\). to be honest, i find it hard to beleive that you could install the OS on a hard drive that is installed to your primary IDE master, then just swap it to your RAID, and expect it to work/read from that drive. but if someone telling you to do, I would assume that have tested this procdure.

another thing to check, where did you get the RAID controller drivers floppy from? did it come with the motherboard? are they the lastest drivers? you might want to get the latest and greatest from either the company that made the RAID controller or the Motherboard MFG web site. to make sure you are using the correct floppy, the directory/files on the floppy should look something like this: [] indicates a folder, these are from my Highpoint driver floppy.
[BIOS]
[WIN98_ME]
[WIN_2000]
[WIN_NT]
[WIN_XP]
DISK1
README.TXT
TXTSETUP.OEM

your disk must contain the txtsetup.oem file.. or you are using the wrong set of drivers.

Did you install the RAID driver before hooking it up
to the RAID Controller after installing the OS?

Did you test the OS after installing?

Also, make sure to unplug any other drives hooked up to
the RAID while doing the OS install.

Lilithtech: while your help is appreciated--i'd suggest you dont throw you hat in the ring unless you know what your talking about. He is obviously using 2 drives for most likly a stripe (cuz he asks if it is really worth the hassle), so hooking up one drive up to the primary channel and then installing os and moving it to a RAID will just delete everything on the drive.

I've had the same error before with a highpoint controller--the way i remieded (spelling?) it was just to not install RAID drivers on boot--WinXP already had them for my controller--then i just upgraded them once the installation was complete.

All help is appreciated greatly. I e-mailed soyo and they never replied, which is gay, so now i just dont know what to do. I just spent like 400 dollas on new computer stuff and won't freaking work...very fustrating...if you have any more ideas or see an article or can help in anyway please repy. thank you very much

Upham.

The way that I explained at the start should work (contrary to Hessakia's diss).
I have done it many times on Desktops, Workstations, Servers, with wide variety
of IDE/SCSI RAID controllers (Highpoint, Promise, Mylex etc..).

Disable RAID in BIOS.

Install the Hard Drive on the Primary IDE channel.
Install the CDRom on the Secondary IDE channel.
(no other drives should be connected to the motherboard)

Install the OS. Makes sure it works properly. Once it is working properly:

Install the (latest) Highpoint RAID driver. Make sure it is listed in the Device Manager.
(it should be listed under "SCSI and RAID controller" as "HPT372 UDMA/ATA 133 RAID controller"

Power down.

Install the Hard drive as primary on RAID.
Install second hard drive as slave on RAID.

Install other hardware as needed.

Power up, Go into the BIOS and make sure to:

Set "First Boot Device" to SCSI
Then Set "RAID/ATA & SCSI" to "RAID/ATA, SCSI"
Save changes and reboot.

Press CRTL+H to boot into the HIGHPOINT ARRAY setup and CREATE an ARRAY.

Believe me, its works.

When you create your array, it will delete your partitions on both of yoru drives--you cannot "build" a RAID0 array.

I'm confused over what it is you are exactly trying to do. Are you:

A. Attempting to boot from a pair of HD's in a RAID configuration or
B. Attempting to boot from the RAID controller without RAID functionality, single IDE drive (which is what I am doing, same basic MB).

I have not attempted to do option A with this MB, but I know that option B works. You would need to pick SCSI first in the BIOS as your Boot Option. I know, because I have basically the same board (no ultra, but Plat) and that is what I have setup.

Now, if I could only get the stupid Raid and System BIOS to update....let me know which of those two you are trying to do, because it certainly cannot be both.

Do you have an extra hard drive (besides the 2 for yor array) or a CD burner? If so, instead of pulling your hair out, just install Windows from your Primary IDE port to one drive. Use Norton Ghost or Drive Image to mirror the fresh Windows installation to either the extra hard drive or burn it on to CDRs. Shut down, set up your RAID array, and then just copy the mirror image from whatever you backed it up on to your RAID array.

Just make sure that the RAID controller is enabled in the BIOS before you install Windows from the Primary IDE port so that you can install the drivers for it. I have done this before with Ghost, and it works well.
