Soyo MB for Athlon Slot A Today Only

This is my first post hope this is an okay deal? ... Just came accross this MB for Athlon Slot A for 59 if you plan to just build a simple system. 10 dollars less than the lowest price on pricewatch and 10 dollars less than the old post.

I have been told that with a bios upgrade it can support Slot A thunderbirds. I would appreciate it if anyone can confirm this they would let us know.

that i dont know... I have a Abit KA7 board that is not aproved to do T-birds but I had not problem.

Soyo may say that they have released a Bios Update to run the T-bird on it, but I asked in the AMD overclockers newsgroup and 2 people responded, one said it wouldnt work and the other said it would but, it was very picky about BIOS setting's. I see a lot of disclaimers saying that the KX-133 chipset wont support T-birds

I already have one on the way, might just get a classic CPU and save the headache's.

I got the info off the Soyo site but dont worry the BIOS Revision: K7VIA_2AA4
will include any changes made in 2AA3 so just get that... I know there are may disclamers, there are issues but alot of them run... I have a KA7 now like I said and it works just fine its the 133 chipest. So try it and dont worry.

I'd like to know how well the overclock.

I did find a decent review here, which points out it makes it very difficult to use the 5th PCI slot since the floppy connector and AMR slot, making only 4 of them useable, plus you can't use the 5th PCI and ISA because they're shared.

any other reviews?? this would mean anyone could upgrade to a 1ghz processor for less than $200 by overclocking a duron and using this board making this a ~H~O~T~ deal!

Yea, I got one. Using classic slot A 750 at 900 with gfd without any effort on my part. haven't tried any higher because I can't get the thing to boot sometimes. Nothing to do with overclocking because I've tried the default speed 750 and another 500 classic.


I might just have a bad board that I got from CompGeeks but I am having random problems on start up. Sometimes it do and mostimes it don't. When it doesn't boot, there is absolutely nothing-- no beeps, nothing other than drives startup.
Then another time it starts right up. There must be some kind of short somewhere because I have to wiggle things around to get it to reboot. Tried duplicate processors, ram, memory, and video so that it can't be any other components.

Has anyone else had similar probs? Hopefully this isn't why they're so cheap.

sounds like you have a bad board to me.

I just re-read one of those reveiews again and it says:
Overclockability: Top Grade 5 (out of 5)

which is good in my book.

I just upgraded about 4 months ago from a bp6 and 366@550 to a old bh6 and 533@822 (896 sometimes). Didn't think i'd be upgrading again so soon but I'm tired of thinking "this 822 is like a p3-600" so a duron at 1000 would be ~400mhz faster than my current computer, and at that price for that board i can't lose!

just hope they keep them in stock until i have an extra $60

Rebuilder, could be a bad board, or it could just be something not seated right. I have had problems with Athlons not fully seated which caused problems like you are experiencing.
