I'll let you'all know in about two weeks. I have ordered two of them along with a couple of Classic 750's, hopefully I can reach 900.
Didnt want to risk getting a T-bird and it not working.

wait, aren't tbirds socket A?? Do they make an adaptor?? Because this board is slot A, so tbirds don't work? What about durons?

also, can tbirds be overclocked? do i have to use a goldfinger thing or something? does the pencial trick work for tbirds?

That might be why it's so cheap, these boards might be good for only Athlons, oh duh it says that in the original post, should have read it closer

well this isn't a hot deal when the processor these boards use are being discontiuned, now that AMD has the duron and tbird the athlon is a dead duck.

well tbirds come in slot and sockets...slot in OEM packaging only.
Thing is you might need a bios upgrade to use the tbird in this mobo...however, ppl report mixed results. I wonder if the tbird is that much faster than the athlon...differences in cache speed 2/5 clock vs full clock speed.

I bought the board, I like the fact that the floppy connector is lower on the board. Because of this i have less clutter in that ares. I love the how the board is set up. I can easily fit a VOS32 and not have to worry about the power supply and DIMM slots getting in the way. The board has so much more room even though it has a smaller PCB that the ASUS K7V. I like the K7v because it's faster. the K7v uses 4:3 DRAM:FSB ratio whereas this SOYO board uses a +33 which causes an overall system slowdown because it will be somewhat offsink with the FSB.

It works decent with a T-bird but for some reason, i can't get my GFD to work with it.

Quickfingerz,

SO you did get a T-bird to work. I heard mixed reports about them working that's why I went with a Classic instead. I plan on using a GFD on mine. Once I get everything shipped and put together I'll let everyone know what the deal is.

To answer one of the above questions, Slot A T-Birds require a GFD to OC. The Socket-A chips can use the pencil trick.

Again, your mileage may vary using a Slot A T-Bird in the Soyo board, there are mixed reports about them working.

Sigh... got my board yesterday and it was bad... So I cant tell you if it work right away with the t-bird. I have a classic 650 and it did not work in there as well so the board was just bad. Anyone had any luck or tried it all out yet? the board and layout looked great although the manual did not say much...Also FYI here is the link that says it adds T-bird support.

Bios updates

I got this board too, and soyo tech support says:

SY-K7VIA only support Slot A thunderbird up to 700MHz.

Bummer, I just ordered a thunderbird 900 MHZ...

Guess I will buy a classic athlon at 900..

Hmmmm upto 700 I wonder why that is... Oh well I have a 700 so Im good there but I sure would love to be at 850/900. Did you just talk to them? when I called yesterday they did not really seem to know much of what I was asking. Wonder what would happen if you used your 900?

My board is bad and they didn't hesitate about an rma. If I read between the lines correctly there must be a lot of these boards that are being returned.
Mmmmm....maybe that's why they're so cheap.

Unfortunately, I don't think they will be able to replace these, just issue a refund and we have to pay shipping to send it back to them. Now, that's a bummer.

Seems to be no way to purchase. They must be sold out. There is no buy now button as there are on the other items. Would have been a deal! Onvia has the Athlon 900 dirt cheap with a discount.

I just installed this MB and an Athlon TBird 700 (got it for $109) and it works great! I did not have to flash the bios before using the system either.

And yes, the onboard audio can be switched off using the BIOS.

The Soyo is a dead deal but I see Compgeeks just got the SlotA Via chipset Epox in for $65. With the "MC Exclusives" discount it would be an equivalent deal.

btw, people with mastercards, definitely use the 10% off mc exclusives. the rebate is a credit at the same time the charge posts. not a slow rebate
