From what I've read here is that SOYO people stay SOYO people. They are loyal to their boards.

That's one of the reasons I got one over the often discussed Asus VIA boards.

autoexebat, do you even know what you're talking about? No.

The Soyo 6BA+IV was one of the best BX boards ever made.
Every chip I put in there from a C300, C366 and P3600E could go higher with more stability than my Asus board.

Was in a tight race with the MSI BX Master for a while and there where hundreds of post about which of these 2 were the best BX board.

Asus also made some great BX boards, while with Abit it seemed that they made great BX boards, you had a very higher chance of getting one that had to be RMAed than any of the others.

I would guess that recently most of the talk is about Athlon/Duron boards and Soyo hasn't produced a board that is as compelling to AMD users as the 6BA+IV was to P3 users.

I hope Abit burns in hell.

They have NO quality to them at all. Ive had so many go bad on me its just stupid. Of the over 40 systems I have built using Abit boards to date over the last 2-3 years almost HALF of them have had to be replaced. I will never buy Abit again. They make great boards when they work, but damn do they quit working fast.

yeah, i gotta say my 6ba+iv could only be better if it had a socket also, as it is the slot is just close enough that i almost loose a ram slot, but since i got a bad gorb and had to fall back to my nameless brand cooler im ok there, :frown: but 4 channels of ide and plenty of room for expansion and the stability seems superb, im only runnin a p2 450 though, and my ram i have no idea what is so thats holding me back, in fact i'm probly gonna switch some chips around as soon as i get home, and has any one seen on the soyo where i can play with the ram timing? my tyan trin 400 allows me to clock my ram from 10 to 8 and i see a nice speed jump, but i cant find it on the soyo

Mostly marketing arrangements.
Abit boards are everywhere. Asus are getting there.

Plus, soyo's naming conventions make it relatively hard to keep track of.

(honest, its a human reaction thing)

I had a soyo sy-5ema+, that was by far the best board i have ever owned, was stable as a rock. I would love to buy another one but they have not released anything with any kind of overclocking options for the duron

I would say if your going to buy a BX MoBo, Soyo is as good as the others. If not, go with Asus or Abit.

Soyo has been one of the top picks by many people, techs and tweakers alike.

I have been using a SY-6BA+III for nearly a year... first I had a Celeron 366@550 for about 6 months. Now for the past 4 months or so I have been running a C-II 533a@880... no stability problems whatsoever.

I am currently running the Soyo 6BA+III with 500E @ 667 very stable for 9 months so far. No problems except for the shutdown in Win2K sometimes reboots.
I have had a couple of ASUS boards which have worked like champs. In my opinion, the BEST quality and support. A little bit more expensive though.
I have built 4 systems with the Abit BH6 in the past 2 or so years when the Celeron 300A@450 was the OC king. All of these systems are still running with no problems under heavy usage. Many people reported problems with ABIT boards, but my experience has been very good with them. I suspect that there were many reported problems only because there were many, many, many more of these boards out there (there were few OC board choices back then). Some people on this board (Russ, compuwiz?), however, who built many systems with ABIT boards did note that the RMA rate for the ABIT boards was relatively high.

In summary, Soyo makes fine MBs but has not gotten the recognition because they are not outstanding in any particular area. They are just solid boards that aren't highly recognized because:
-Soyo has not been first to market with new features
-Soyo is not the biggest or most visible MB manufacturer
-Soyo does not have the market presence of some of the other manufacturers

I feel SOYO is the best kept secret in the PC world. I have been using SOYO boards ever since the first Pentium 75 hit the street and I have been using them ever since. At one point I ran an entire office of about 200 users on NOTHING BUT soyo mobos and NEVER had a bad board or a problem.

Currently, I use a few SOYO 6BA+ 100's and the built in IDE raid kicks a$$. I love SOYO boards and would never, by choice, use another brand. You can get a 6BA+ 100 from www.mwave.com for about $99.

I have no idea why someone would ever use an ABIT board, they are not good WHEN COMPARED TO OTHERS (flame suit on)

I like ASUS also. If you are NOT an overclocker, Intel and Tyan have some nice boards too.

Edited to say - maybe you never hear people talk about them because then run trouble free and no one is out here bitch'in

ok - you might want to try the search function first.
Second-remember this is only one opinion
but Abit=A*hit( at least the older ones.)
Bx6r2 + 366=NO 550
Same with Soyo 6BA+IV = 578 or more - don't really remember.
NO stability problems with OC'n with soyo.
Currently have a 700 @ 980+ on the +IV
100% stability.

Pertinent info below:

"The Final Decision

Soyo's done it again with the SY-6BA+IV - they've gone head to head with ABIT and come out on top. The SY-6BA+IV offers all the features of the ABIT BE6 and more. The selection of FSB speeds is currently unsurpassed in the market and matched only by the SY-6BA+III. If you were considering the ABIT BE6 or held off buying an SY-6BA+III due to the lack of Ultra ATA 66 support, make sure you put the SY-6BA+IV on your list as well.

Proud owner of a 6BA+IV for nearly a year now. Absolutely no problems with taking a C366 to 550 and now a C633 to 950 at stock voltage. I've even had no hiccups with tha HPT366 and my WD Expert.

yeah, the 6ba+4 is pretty good, ive had one since i cant remember when, i've had (for some reason once) nearly every fan in my case died at once, and the cpu fan was/is carping out i ran a p2 450 24/7 thru the summer pretty much, and it still hums like a charm, i think though i have some old ram holding me back or somthin, cause i cant get it to stay stable with any ocing, or any more than 4 ide devices, i dunno why, but minute i add an 5th device, or any inch away from the cpu's recomended stats it starts actin up like really bad, but not over clocked, i can go without a lock up for months on end runnin rc5 descent3 win proxy, and usually with a good burner in the sys i can run a burn too, or watch a dvd and run some games windowed with rc5 and winproxy, though if i was choosin now, i might go for the 6ba 100
