SP1 and SP2

I am new to 2000 and need to know if I should install these releses. Is there pproblems with them that I ahould know about?

As far as I know, you can skip the SP1 (it worked for me, someone correct me if I'm wrong). When you install SP2, be sure to tell it to back up your system files just in case something goes wrong. This sucks a little hard-drive space, but doesn't suck as bad as losing everything during a reinstall. Once everything is known to be stable, you can remove the backup files if you need more space.

Do what you wish, but a smart person would wait a month or two to see what's affected by SP2. If you really need something that's included in SP2 there should be a Hot Fix for it. SP1 should be safe. If there are any issues with it there should be plenty of solutions available.

Go nuts and install SP2. Our testing at work has yielded no problems, and I have not heard of any major problems with SP2 on my mailing lists. FYI, service packs are cumulative, so you don't need to install SP1.

Installed win2k server and then sql 2000 server and then sp2 without sp1, and no problems so far here.

win2k sp2 reboots my computer randomly. i suggest installing win2k first then isntalling each sp one at a time because sp deal with compatability issues not security so if youre computer runs fine without a sp you should be ok i think.

Just install SP2, it should include all the SP1 updates as well. I mean it's 100 MB, so it'd better!

Incorrect FOBSIDE. Service Packs do deal with security issues.

Try using a Hot Fix. All security issues should have a Hot Fix available.
