SP2 'Breaks' Windows Explorer?

Hello. I just did a fresh install of XP Pro, and then I installed SP2 right after. Everything is fine, except that my Windows Explorer utility is having problems. I have two physical Hard Drives and the second HD has two Partitions. In Windows Explorer, when I click on the left hand pane, to see the last partition of the second HD, Drive G:\, Windows Explorer takes a significant time to show the contents of Drive G:\-about 2-3 minutes. And if I click on Windows Explorer while it hangs, it crashes and takes down Explorer.exe as well (thought, after a few seconds I return to a normal desktop.) But if I wait it out, eventually G: drive contents shows up but, I have to wait way TOO Long!

But this problem doesn't occur if I use 'My Computer' icon on the desktop. I can click on G:\ drive w/o any problems. And if I'm in Windows Explorer and I first click on My Computer first, and then click on the G:\ drive icon on the RIGHT side pane, no problems. Only when I click on G:\ drive on the left do I get issues. BTW, I first tried out SP2 after I upgraded from a XP install with SP1a and I never had this problem. Only after the fresh XP install?

Anyone have any ideas of what I can try to do to fix this? Thanks a million

That doesn't really seem to make any sense. Are you sure you didn't have this problem the last time you used SP2?

Well the 1st time I installed it, it was a upgrade over SP1a. No problems. The second time I installed it (yesterday), I got slammed with viruses and spyware. I can't recall if I had slow/crashing Windows Explorer problem then, as I was just focused on getting rid of the Spyware/viruses. Today, when I installed SP2 for the 3rd time is when I noticed the slow/crashing Windows Explorer problem/

But I just noticed, that maybe the problem is due to very large folders on the G:\ drive.

I moved one folder \backup that is 6.6Gigs large and a compressed folder that is 3.7Gig Large to D:\ drive. After this, G:\ drive opened quickly like it should of. BUT D:\ drive is now very, very slow. Same problem as before.

Could this be because of a folder name, or maybe its just that the folders on the drive are massively large? But I didn't have this issue with SP1a.

Anyone who can figure this out, gets a

Alright, Well I GET A COOKIE!

I think I just fixed the problem. One of the folders I had, was called \--XP STUFF-- and this folder was 6.6gigs in size. Well I thought maybe the problem was due to the folder name, so changed it to \stuffIneed. After this, all of the drives and their content shows up instantly in Windows Explorer now.

I also had a zipped folder of a old Win98 install that was 3.7gigs, but this wasn't really the problem it seems.

Blind/Dumb luck saves the day!!
