I'm honestly amazed this thread hasn't been started yet, so I'll kick it off. I haven't played this yet but between this and Stalker 2, I'm very tempted to break my "wait six months" rule because these two look outstanding and I'm a huge fan of both series. I know someone here must be playing this already since it released yesterday and I'm curious to know if it has lived up to the hype so far.

Really want to play this but my i78700K/1080TI is probably going to struggle.

Will wait a couple years when I build a new rig.

Admittedly, I'm new to this franchise and while I've heard of it, never played or got into it. Game's # 1 on Steam. Worth $60? Or, is this one of those games, a la UbiSoft, that will be 50% off in a couple of months?

Looks as if gamers love it and everyone appears to recommend it.

I ordered early and crushed the campaign with some buddies.

If you love 40k, this will have tons of cool moments that will hit your plastic-crack-addicted heart right in the feels.

If you're not into 40k, its a fun action game with a combination of shooting and melee. One of my friends described it as a 3rd person Doom2016, and I think that's pretty accurate.

The campaign storyline is not super complicated but enjoyable. You can play the campaign solo (with 2 bot companions) or 2 friends can jump in to take human control.

The co-op operations are really good and the class variation gives you lots of ways to play. sniper is very good, hah.

PvP is pretty fast paced in that stuff dies very quickly (well, I do anyway..my enemies not so much), but you also spawn in quickly to get back in the action.

I roll controller but friends play KBM. Don't know how much a difference it makes but I have a good time!

Thanks!

I can play with either and probably played with KBM more than I have with a controller. When I started ER, the best advice I had probably gotten here was to play it with a controller.

From the clips of the game, I'll probably start it off with KBM, unless like ER, it's better with a controller.

I finally played and finished the first game earlier this year after it had been sitting in my backlog for many years, and I had a lot of fun with it. I could be wrong, but I think Doom 2016 picked up the mechanic of recovering health after performing an execution on an enemy from this game.

Anyway, I’ll definitely be playing Space Marine 2, but I’m waiting for a sale.

I have played through the OG a couple of times over the years. Mark Strong was perfect for the role. Shame they did not bring him back. I am waiting for a price drop too. My son and some of his friends all bought early access and have been digging it.

The swarm engine is cool stuff. I am wondering how an overclocked 8700K would do in intense areas. But the 1080ti is on the struggle bus in this game which would exacerbate CPU demands even more.

Oh wow, had no idea of the rich lore of this game dating back over 10 years! This was during my phase where I avoided games taking a break from my PC hobby (yeah, just went with a Mac during these years)! The 40K hammer series has books and there's even an upcoming Amazon show? Ok, probably play this once I've finished with Hogwarts.

"Has books" is the understatement of the century!
Prepare to get swamped by the amount of source material! It's honestly exhausting to keep up!

You know, I was browsing audible because of some expiring credits. So, I'm just searching to use a couple of them up, and see this 40K Warhammer? I'm like, what? If it weren't for the game, I would have no idea! Damn, I might use some credits on this and start getting into the series. I regret having missed this, because this is something I would've loved to get engrossed into!

If you value your bank account staying in the positives, stay far away from the Warhammer 40K tabletop scene. The miniatures and paint alone will bankrupt you.

Yeah, I'm starting to see some of the stuff they offer, and it's like a complete genre taking place on a board game too? Fascinating and seems like a really really fun hobby.

There are many youtube channels to help get your feet wet. A synopsis of the 40K universe -

The Space Marine 2 devs have a homage to TotalBiscuit (RIP due to cancer) in the credits. I think his vid was responsible for many giving the first game a go -

Fascinating! So much so, I'm going to pick up the 40K older Warhammer version on sale at GOG for about $10 bucks. I'm going to use some of my Audible credits for some of these books. Any recommendations on which ones to start off with first?

Gaunts Ghosts are probably my favourites, but those are the novels. I've not much experience with the audio books.
The Horus heresy stuff would probably fill you in on the most important backstory stuff.

Thanks! This is very helpful. You weren't kidding, when I searched for "40K Warhammer," so many titles popped up!

-IMO anything written by Dan Abnett is a good place to start. Dunno if things have changed, but I remember him being among the more capable writers in the Black Library.

A couple of my favorites:

-Einsenhorn Trilogy -The OG story of an imperial Inquisitor.

-The Ravenor Trilogy - Spinoff series from Einsenhorn about another Inquisitor

-Gaunt's Ghosts - Long running series about a unit of Imperial Guard.

-Let the Galaxy Burn - A solid short story compendium that gives you a good broad look at the 40k universe from a lot of different perspectives.

Just a small example of the work you need to do:
