As far as I know there is a crack for ICQ and if you install it you can see everyone's IP address (if you use licq (linux icq) like me, you can always see everyone's IP address ).
A DOS (DoS) is Denial of Service. It's what happened to yahoo, ebay and other sites early this year or previous year. You send a lot of data to an IP address and his/her computer can't handle that much data and won't be able to receive connections. So he/she can't use the internet anymore.

But I don't get that much spam on icq. I get more on my hotmail account, while I got my ICQ longer.
And the few spam messages I get can easily be handled: right click on the name/Edit User Group/Ignore List.

I agree about trillian, I've been using it for about a year now, and I can only remember about 2 spam messages in the last year I think... very good and I didn't even have to change any settings (plus it helps if you are 1) an IM whore, or 2) have family/friends whom each uses a different kind of medium for chat, so you need all of them open to talk to everyone)

same problem here , and I even have an 8 digit icq #, which is kind of small considering how long they are now ;]
but i come to my computer in the morning and I get about 3 porn spam

If you guys go back to using icq98a you never get spam . All I use icq is for messages and files so I dont need all the whiz bang stuff the new icq's have, plus low memory usage too.

AOL killed ICQ. I used to love ICQ and don't even touch it these days. I even went ahead and re-installed version 99a, so I wouldn't have to put up with all the AOL crap on the newer versions. If I wanted AOHell, I would've used AOL IM.

I really wish people would wake up and realize that AOL is crap. That is one company that I'd love to see go under big time!!
