I have an ECS 755 A2 motherboard.

It has a SPDIF header. Do I need some kind of an adapter to connect a cable to it?
Where would I purchase one?

I did check the ECS web site but didnt find any info.

Thanks

If you are trying to get SPDIF-out to work, it should be easy, because it only requires a bracket with two wires. For instance, you could get a bracket like this, than, pull the wires from the black connector. When you do this, the wires should have little thingies (don't know what their called) that slip over the posts on your motherboard header. The only thing for you to figure out is which pins are ground and which are SPDIF out on your motherboard header. I did this with a Biostar bracket on my Abit NF7-S to enable SPDIF out.

SPDIF-in would be a different story.

SPDIF = Sony/Phillips Digital Interface. It is for digital output of sound through an RCA connector. The optical connector is called a TOSLINK connector. It is typically better to use RCA for short distances and optical for long distances, though I've found that RCA is the way to go 90% of the time sound-wise.

Really easy to make your own SPDIF coaxial connector and cable. Use a spare CDROM audio cable (everyone has plenty they don't use, right?) and cannibalize it for parts. Get a coaxial bulkhead connector from Radio Shack. Drill a hole in a blank spoon and attach the connector there. Solder wires to the connector from the spare cable. Wire center to + and outside to ground (check mobo manual for pinout). The patch cable to receiver should be 75Ohm coaxial with RCA ends, but I've seen it work on crappy patch cord.

I was going to hook up the cable that comes from my CD/DVD player to that SPDIF connector.

Where does the audio cable from the CD player go on this board?

I have not built a computer for almost 2 years.......new stuff on this board.

I am about to fire it up.....my first AMD 64.
