Speakeasy 6.0/768 FREE upgrade for some people. ymmv.

If you look at Speakeasy frontpage it states they have a new service 6.0/768 for a limited time at $69.95(regularly $99.95). I already have speakeasy dsl at 1.5/384 joined in December because that was a better deal then. It was a business netadvantage acct also at $69.95. I called in today and asked what it would take to upgrade to the 6.0/768...they said NOTHING! With the netadvantage i got 8 ips but the new plan only has 4 ips...good enuff!

I feel this is super HOT if you are in similar shoes and it doesn't hurt to call. The great thing is they say the speed will come into effect in 6-8hrs. awesome.

Remember with Speakeasy, per their terms and conditions, DOWNGRADES will incur a $99 fee but UPGRADES are fee-free. So i will pay the same $69.95 but get 4x dl speed. Rep initially said the fee is charged since i am moving from business to residential plan but then said since its essentially a speed upgrade, fee is waived.

I just switched from 1.1 sdsl to this package. I was paying 216 per month for the 1.1 sdsl package and now I have the 6.0/768 for 110 a month. Great speeds for less money and speakeasy has some of the best customer support in the biz.

Awesome stuff. Not offered in my area tho. In fact, the best they offer me is 1.5 down. Guess I'll stick with cable, which is 3.0 down.

I dropped speakeasy last month cuz they removed the POP in Denver. There service now sucks in Denver, everything gets routed to LA first.

Another question, does anyone know about Speakeasy's SDSL connection? I know someone who wants to have some kind of connection that like almost never goes down for his job. I think $500 for a T1 is a little too pricey, but the SDSL lines don't sound bad. It doesn't have to be super fast but just good uptime which I've heard SDSL has.

Covad SDSL (which is what Speakeasy uses) has a 99.9% uptime guarantee I believe. You should read through the SLA (Service Level Agreement) and find out what the guaranteed uptime is. I know for my Covad TeleSOHO 1.5/384 ADSL I don't have an SLA but my uptime has been 100% since I got the service about 1.5 years ago ...

I wish I didn't just sign another 1 year agreement with Covad recently, or I'd jump on this Speakeasy 6.0/768 connection right now! I'm spending $65/month right now for 1.5/384

Of course after 3 months the price goes back up to $99/month but even that isn't too unreasonable for 6Mbps down!

Here's the scoop on Covad's SDSL SLA:

Service Availability Guarantee - Take comfort in the reliability of Covad's services, and rest assured that Covad will respond quickly to any service outages.
? We guarantee service availability of 99.9% or better, or you will be eligible for a credit equal to one day of service for every hour of downtime beyond our guarantee. Pretty good if you ask me! I'd read through the actual contract itself to be sure, but I know Covad is known for having pretty good service. SpeakEasy's SLA may be different of course, this SLA I'm posting is directly through Covad.

Bump and update. Now starting at 19.95 for the first 3 months. I love Speakeasy...wish I could keep it where I am moving to. Sigh. Kinda makes me wish I wasn't moving.
