I don't like my computer to make freakin sounds whenever it wants me.
I have disabled sounds in windows.
I have disconnected the speaker from my computer case to the MB.
I have tested it with all my speakers turned off and muted.
Yet windows still can beep me (for instance when a MSN buddy
sends me a message while I'm in another window or when ActiveSynch
synchs with my PDA). I have disabled all the beeps in all the properties.
But you know windows.

So is there a speaker integrated on my motherboard?
I have an Asus A7V266E.

*looks at postcount* You don't visit very often, huh? You never call. You never send even a little note saying that you're OK, but yet you expect us to jump up an down with joy and HELP you whenever you decide to grace us w/your presence, hmmm?

Oh. Ok then.

When you first press the power button to turn it on, do you hear any beeps? If so, you have a speaker on the mobo. I don't have your mobo, nor do I know anyone that does, so I'm just being Captain Obvious here.

It's me.

Yeah bro. I am so abusive. I prefer to read theregus.com and theinquirer.net and stuff.

But when I have a problem or want to find out a release date, it's anandtech all the way.

At least I check the posts in case people put answers.

But I pretty much know that it's the motherbaord. I'm a little surprised.

But what I need is a SOLUTION, not some wisecracks and a restatement of what I think already...

So, Mr. Abusive; if you already KNOW that it's the mobo making the noise, WTH are you asking? Duh.

Seriously, mobo speakers are about the diameter of a quarter and about 1/2-inch high. They have a visible metal center inside a round, plastic case. Why do you want a completely silent PC anyway? Some sounds (like that mobo beep on boot) are very useful and informative.

Yup, look on the motherboard for a little black plastic device that looks like an out of place bottlecape with a hole in the top. If you're the soldering type, easy enough to fix - just desolder it and take it off. If you're not, well a dab of glue in the hole will cut it's sound output by a great deal. Used to do that with annoying modems, but it didn't make them completely silent, just real quiet.

Easy:
Enable sound in Windows
Mute sound in taskbar

That should get rid of sound without Windows going to your system speaker.

The mobo speaker can have its plastic cap pulled off to remove the metal disc. It does not need to be desoldered.
