speaker wire is just speaker wire, have used 14 gauge on most myself.
I did buy the low oxygen copper wire myself last time I rerouted everything, but that was more for durability.
The price wasn't any different if you shop around, but the standard
Monoprice wire is about as good as you can get.
It's what the started out doing to begin with if I am not mistaken, just selling cable in bulk.
14 gauge will handle anything fine short of an outdoor concert I'd imagine, it
even seems a bit of over kill on my moderately large speakers in the house.
Decent 16 gauge would probably more than enough for most peoples applications, buying designer wires is not going to help speakers in any way.
