UPDATE 12-09-2004
***
I received these speakers today. I have only been able to listen to them for a few minutes, but I can say these things are well built. They weigh just shy of 42 pounds and there is nothing cheap about them. The music I listened to so far sounds good on them. The bass is very clean and the sound is very good. I will have to wait till tomorrow to really test them when I can turn up the volume a little (kids sleeping) with some more music and Half Life 2.

This are really great speakers. I still like the Klipsch a little better, but not by much. With these speakers being very well built, great sound, and half price of the Klipch, I have to recommend this setup. Next time you are in the market for some speakers, at least try these out. You will be impressed.

I tested the speakers with rap, rock, and games and they all sounded great.

Thanks to Bucksnort for pointing me towards these and towards a great price

I need some new speakers for my PC.

I am a casual gamer, but will use these mostly for music (rock, not rap).

This is what I have narrowed my choices down to:

Cyber Acoustics A3780 2.1 Speaker System $89.95 + $16.00 shipping

ProMedia GMX D-5.1 $149.00 + $25.00 shipping

ProMedia GMX A-2.1 $149.00 + $25.00 shipping

ProMedia 2.1 $179.99 + $25.00 shipping

I have read the reviews, but I want to hear from people who own these speakers. Is the Klipsch really worth the extra money for what I am going to use it for?

Can't really go wrong with Klipsch... but if you can spring for them, go with the ProMedia Ultras. If your budget is strict, have you considered headphones? If you do your research and aren't too stingy, you can spend a reasonable amount on phones and get jaw-dropping sound quality for both games and music.

UsandThem, I've had the ProMedia 2.1's for a couple years now and I've yet to hear anything that I'd trade them for. If you're hard core gaming then you'll want a 4 or 5.1 setup. If music is your thing then the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1's will be tough to beat.

Check them out here, $145 + $14 shipping.

Coupled w/ a good sound source the PM 2.1's are impressive. One thing I've noticed, and I think is true w/ any good speaker setup, is you're going to hear what the source provides, warts and all. There's no masking going on, due to muddled speaker quality. One thing I like about the PM 2.1's is they'll sound good at low sound levels, as well as loud (and I do mean loud).

FWIW early on in the PM 2.1's intro Klipsch had some quality control problems. I had a subwoofer and a set of satellites replaced. Klipsch was very good at handling the problem.

Klipsch PM's; you can't go wrong. I have the 4.1's from a few years back and they are still going strong. I've not heard too many new systems that can beat them. A few, sure, but not many.

Definitely the Promedia 2.1's. I've had mine for 3 years now and I too have not found anything I would give them up for.

I have the GMX D5.1, and they're perfect for me. Why? If you want a SURROUND system for cheap get these, meaning you want to play Xbox/PS2/gamecube and watch DVDs in true Dolby Digital 5.1. PC Games will not be in 5.1, meaing they are not in true surround, however the simulated surround is fine for PC games really. If you want a small home theater get these. After rereading your post, it doesn't seem you want to use your PC as a HT, so get the Promedia 2.1's.

I had a pair of PM 2.1's a few years back and they were great. Well, one day one of the subs overheated/fuse went/electronics fried and it was out of warantee - however, klipsch still paid shipping both ways and replaced the faulty set with a brand new set.

PM 2.1's

Well, it seems that the Klipsch Promedia 2.1's are winning

Does anybody here own or heard the Promedia GMX A-2.1's?

Also, would anybody here recommend Altec Lansing or Bose speakers.

I am really just trying to get the best bang for the buck around $150.00 that will mainly be used for music. Do the Klipsch 2.1's have a way to adjust the bass?

Thanks!

I have had my ProMedia 2.1s for a few years now and highly recommend them. And yes, you can adjust the bass level.

Cybers, i love em. Like the reviews say, they sound as good as klipsh, better than logitech and they are the best value. And yes I own them and yes I listened carefully to all 3. You can get them for 79.00 online at radio shack with free shipping. Heavier than Klipsh also and higher grade wiring.

I'm somewhat of an audiophile, in that I can't stand bad sound. I'm no golden-ears snob, but I generally know good speakers from bad.

With that said, from your list, I only have experience with the ProMedia 2.1 model, but I would easily spring for those again if I couldn't listen to the others. They're pretty good, with bass that's clean and clear and not just "boomy" or "muddy," clean, clear mids with not much missing from that range, and clear but not too-harsh highs.

Yes, the bass is adjustable on those; you can turn it down most, but not all the way.

You may be able to find a better price if you look around. I'm thinking I've seen them on sale for $149.xx + tax at Best Buy, but maybe I'm imagining things again. (Maybe it was 199.xx.)

That seems like a really great price (free shipping helps too).

According to the Radio Shack's website, it states that these are available online, but are special order at their B & M stores. So there would be really no way for me to hear these.

I see that they encourage you to send the item back by mail (at your expense it seems) if you don't like it, however they will unhappily accept it at their B & M stores as well if you talk to their associate about the purchase (WTF?)

No, you are right. They are $149.99 at Best Buy.

This is what I have narrowed my choices down to:

Cyber Acoustics A3780 for $84.00 shipped or the Klipsch 2.1 for $158.99 out the door at Best Buy.

Are the Klipsch really worth two times the amount of the the Cyber Accoustics?

I can't find any non-user critical reviews of the Cyber Acoustics system, whereas they're plentiful for the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1.

Anybody know of any? I don't trust the user reviews, because users generally don't know what to look (listen) for. They all say something to the effect of "they're loud, great base [sic], they kick ass, etc." They often say the same thing about 2.1 speakers I've listened to that are clearly horrible, too.

I decided to try the Cyber Accoustics. Even if they are 80% of the Klipsch, they are 50% less.

If they aren't any good I will just return them to Radio Shack (since it is free shipping I won't lose any money).

I went and listened to the Klipsch 2.1's and they are awesome

Excellent decision, I guarantee you that u are gona be blown away with their sound, quality and construction. The remote is heavy as a rock, all thick high quality wiring. Let us know your impressions.

I hope not

If they aren't any good I will get the Klipsch 2.1's at Best Buy. They are $149.99 + $9.00 tax = $158.99. I just also received a Best Buy coupon for 10% this weekend and as long as Best Buy doesn't jack up their price they would be $143.09.

I will post back in here when I get a chance to hear the Cyber Accoustics. I hope I will like them as much as the Klipsch because they are so much cheaper

Thanks!
