Back on April 25th, you gave me some excellent pointers on saving my XP system and files when I built a new computer. Well everything is in place now. Some changes, intel D845PESV motherboard, 2.66 gig P4. I need some clarification on your advice to me in April - you told me; "Build the system, install new HD as master . . . old drive as master on the secondary IDE . . . and the CDROM slaved on either port".
Then you said ... "Use the software from the drive manufacturer to copy the partition(s) from the old drive to the new drive . . . . ."
My problem ---- I have an old IBM 40GiG, and an Old IBM Disk Manager on CD. The new HD is a 60GiG Hitachi (IBM) bought oem. Since they are both IBM at heart the manufacturer software should work but I don't find any program on the CD for copying files between HD's and there is no mention of NTSF file management which I use with XP. There is mention of FAT 32 and Win 2000 on other utilities on the disk. I checked Hitachi's web page for the latest HD software and copied the disk functional testing and disk utilities but saw nothing about transferring/copying files between HD. Am I missing something? Thanks loads!!!
