special powersuply for dual cpu???

Does a mobo made for double intel cpu (pentium III) need a special powersuply?
My friend says that we need a special supply that has 2 connectors that connect to the motherboard.

I don't believe, and told him this isn't true.

Can someone help us out here?

i dont think it has anything to do with dual cpu's but pent4 boards do have two plugs for the power supply. also remember that a dual cpu rig will need alot more power.

I would like to point out, as previous owner of a dual CPU system, SOME motherboards have 2 connectors on the board. I owned a SuperMicro PDGE dual board, and it had two connectors. The two connectors are on some boards, so you can take full advantage of a Dual Power Supply(I had a PowerMan Dual 300w power supply).

So if you want to take full advantage of a Dual Power supply, you want the 2 connectors(one is an ATX connection, the other looks like 1/2 an AT connection).

ahh i learned something new today, is the powersupply you are talking about for "some" dual pent3 boards the same as the one for pent4 boards?

Since many of the dual mobos are aimed at the server market, some have dual power supply feeds for a redundant power supply. Some also have what looks like another power connector, it's used for monitoring software/firmware.

The Antec 400 Watt supply (for example) has a single power feed, and the connector for monitoring.

For a dual, I'd say 300Watts is a bare minimum, especially if you're driving alot of fans in the case.
