Hey guys well i'm in the market for a new LCD screen. I'm looking to buy a 17in to a 19in LCD. What are the specs I should be looking at? I play games so i don't want any ghosting, so i plan on using DVI. So if you guys have bought an LCD screen, give me minimum specs that i should consider such as reaction time. Also places to buy and brands i should consider. Give me some examples. Any help will do! Thanx in advanced.

Specs you should look at.

LCD brightness usually 250+cd/cm is fine
Contrast Ratio 300:1 is pretty much minimmun for any quality LCD.
Response time for games you pretty much need less than 25ms often specs will list as rise anf fall ms times just add those two 90% of LCDs out there are not really great at gamming.

Finally DVI vs SVGA dosen't matter, if you have a quality LCD you cannot tell the differance and simply having DVI interface will not prevent ghostin

i can definitely see a quality difference between the svga and dvi inputs on my samsung 171p. does this mean that my lcd isnt "quality"
i've compared the analog vs digital inputs on the last 3 of my lcd monitors, viewsonic vg181, samsung 170t and present. i have always seen a quality difference.
ai42, have you compared the inputs side by side?

Remember that in analog mode the difference may be in the video card as opposed to the monitor.

If money is not a concern, I recommend the Sharp LL-T1820. List is $1299, but you can find it for less. Perfect-10 Kickass award from MaximumPC. Check out their review of large LCD's.

Otherwise, go with the Samsung.

I would be careful with basing your decision on Specs.......

I brought a SHARP .....LL-T1620.....
its specs
16 inch
1280 X 1024
400:1
300cdm brightness
25ms...they claim.......do some reaserch and you will find that the Flatpanel Module they use is rated the following....
model LQ160E1LW31
Response Time
Typ Max
Decay 5 25
Rise 20 50

The biggest stat they typically lie on it the colours displayed......at least with my Sharp LL-T1620.......The green isn't complete,....It really has a hard time displaying the dark greens.... The red kinda looks orange......This is for a LCD product released 3 months ago........The OSD in the Sharp is also pretty hard to use too........
Overall I would say the less than decent green as a huge detractor....soo many games use large green back drops...
On the Positive side, the sharp screen is very well built....even better built than a Eizo.....
the colour definately isn't as vibrant as the color shown on my other flat pannel .......
Overall, its a decent display if you can't afford a good 17inch but want 66% more real estate than what 15inch devices offer...

As with samsungs..The only one i have seen and tested is the 151S which is good but its blue is very strong.......

When you are shopping around, its really hard to spot the differance in the shop......but I wouldn't shop based on specs...

If money isn't a issue i would go for one of theses....as reviewed by TomsHardware.

Well I have a Viewsonic VA800 LCD which is 17.4 inches. They don't make them anymore really from what I can find but it had been the best out of 4LCD's I have had out of Samsung, Sharp, and MAG. They have no visible pixel damage out of the box or anything, and the best part is they do monitors 100% so they of course are going to try and make a good product to earn there money. Anyways here are some LCD's you might wanna try to look at, which I was able to also find at CompUSA.

VIEWSONIC VA720:
Link below:

http://www.viewsonic.com/products/lcd_va720.htm

Screen size 17".
Brightness 250cd/m
Contrast Ratio 450:1 (The higher, the better image quality)
Max display 1280x1024
Analog VGA output (DVI is no different for quality in my opinion)
25ms responce time which most LCD's are anyways

The price for this one is about $650 and that is pretty good in my opinion. The link for it on COMPUSA is

http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=295132

For a 19" I would try the Viewsonic VG191 which link is below:

http://www.viewsonic.com/products/lcd_vg191.htm

Specs are:

19" viewing area.
600:1 contrast ratio.
250 cd/m
1280x1024 (Max viewing size)
25ms responce time.
Includes both DVI and Analog inputs.

Price is 911 dollars at COMPUSA, here is the link:

http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=50187602

Hope this helps!
